About Barron

Hello! I am Barron Brocksmith, writing coach and tutor for high school and college students. I offer expertise in academic writing, college admissions essays, and scholarship application essays. Additionally, we can work together on general tutoring in the humanities. My unique background in academia, child development, and fitness imbues the work I do with passion, competence, and light-heartedness.

I graduated magna cum laude in 2016 from New York University's Department of Art History with minors in Medieval and Renaissance Studies and French. Since then, I have worked as a fitness instructor at SoulCycle and in administration at NYU's Stern School of Business. I am currently completing a Master of Social Work at NYU as well.

I partner with students to achieve defined goals that extend beyond a mere grade in a class or completion of an essay. The central tenet of my teaching experience is what I like to call "understanding the 'why.' " That is, I work with individuals to help them better understand the reasons underlying the rules so that concepts can be practically applied beyond an arbitrary lesson. Helping people get to this point--where learning "clicks"--gives me the greatest satisfaction in my work.

About the lesson

After reaching out on this website or to (concealed information) with general information and a short description of their needs and expectations, clients can schedule a free 15 minute phone consultation to ensure we are a good match.

Going forward, we can meet via Zoom as needed, weekly, or every other week depending on the preference of the client and my recommendation.

My clients currently include undergraduate and graduate level college students, and I look forward to expanding my base to include high school students as well.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
As we get to know one another and build an intellectual relationship, I find the most valuable questions are those that are as specific as possible. Identifying a precise need is easier said than done, however. In our early sessions, I will help pinpoint and articulate sticking points so that the client is better equipped to bring that awareness into future sessions and endeavors.
