About Leyton
Hello! My name is Leyton Cassidy and I would love to tutor you or your kids in any level of English! I am currently enrolled at Columbia University's graduate program for creative non-fiction writing. I lived in Italy for highschool and went to Bard Early College after my Junior Year. I transferred to Sarah Lawrence College and graduated from there in 2016.
Since then I have worked in a variety of jobs which have made me a well rounded communicator and leader. My relevant experience for this position is as follows:
Podcast/Writing Staff at The Columbia Journal (I work on reviews, a literary podcast and with the archives for the Columbia Journal. I am constantly excercising my leadership and writing muscles).
Crisis Counselor at The Trevor Project (I am currently on leave from my position as a crisis cousnelor on an LGBTQ suicide prevention hotline. I have included this under relevant experience because I think it speaks to my overall communication, deescelation and listening skills).
Assistant Site Director at Wingspan Arts PS340 (Wingspan is an afterschool program that teaches the arts in New York Public Schools. I worked with grades pre-K through 5th).
Assistant Writing Teacher and Dorm Head at Putney School Summer Program (The Putney Summer Program is an arts camp in Vermont for students aged 12-17. I taught some of my own smaller classes, assisted with the writing students and was in charge of a dorm with one other staff member. I stayed and worked there for two months).
Ski Instructor at Taos Ski Valley (I taught children ages 3-7 all levels of skiing. I had to deal with a lot of conflict and was trusted to take a large group of kids out in a high risk environment).
I have also babysat for many families around New York City, and have been on The Dean List in college and was part of the National Honors Society. I've taken the Government, Italian Language, World History, English Language and English Literature AP classes and exams.
I feel confident in my tutoring abilities in a range of subjects. English and Literature are my biggest specialties, but I also speak Italian and know a lot about Art History, Theatre History, Sociology, Politics, Medieval and Renaissance History. Sarah Lawrence College is a school without majors, so I got to sink my teeth into a variety of areas. It was also an essay focused school, and I have experience writing forty page academic papers. I am organized, consistent, and most importantly, I absolutely LOVE learning. I bring a lot of enthusiasm to a teaching environment. Feel free to check out my website or message me with any questions!
(concealed information)
I love working with kids and I love to help folks that have trouble learning. I had a tutor growing up because I have some reading difficulties. Teaching was a natural progression for me because I am outgoing person and a good communicator.
As stated in my bio, I have had a great range of experience in academia, and have taught many subjects to many ages. Since I am still a student, I have a unique perspective on both sides of the experience. While I have never specifically studies teaching in school, I have enthusiastically studied all the subjects that I teach, and have had the oppurtunity to teach them in many institutions.

I always ask students a lot of questions about what works for them. Not all learning styles work for me, and so I want to go into every new relationship really open minded. I have a lot of tactics to build mutual respect with all ages and consider myself a really flexible leader.
When encouraging people to write, I both encourage them to write about things that they are excited about and venture into new territories.
I have worked with students ages 3-17. I would be super happy to venture into undergrads as well, and actually think it would play to a lot of my strengths because of my love for academia.

Since I am fairly new to this, I am open to some flexibility price wise. I want to support people that cannot pay as much. My current range is 30-50 an hour.
