About Annabelle

Annabelle Tocco is a private tutor specializing in English Literature and Writing, currently based in Newton, MA. She is a current student of New York University's English Literature & Creative Writing Program, where she earns a 3.9 GPA and has worked closely with various English Department professors to write theses, chapbooks, and is a staff writer for the Washington Square News Literary magazine. She has been tutoring for over 3 years.

Coming from a family of educators, I was raised to highly value my education, and I wish to share my passion for teaching and writing with others. I specifically love teaching Literature or Creative Writing, as I find that storytelling is truly what connects each of us to the world around us, and is a vital skill for life as a whole.

I was raised in a family of educators, and have been working in education since I was a teenager, beginning with swimming lessons at summer camp and eventually working my way up to private tutoring in English, as well as in Spanish and French languages.

I am about to graduate from New York University with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and Creative Writing and have been private tutoring for over 3 years since I graduated high school. At my university, I have a multitude of relevant coursework that is available upon request, as well as having taught ESL overseas in the South of France.

About the lesson

Before beginning tutoring sessions, I find it is crucial to have an initial meeting with the student and/or the student's parents to discuss the direction in which they would like the tutoring to proceed. I can provide anything from a simple review of writing and coursework to a full literature curriculum with reading and writing assignments, based on what the client would like best!

I have worked with students of all ages, the youngest starting at 7 years old, all the way up to adults 50+.

What is most important in order for students to truly succeed is a teacher who is passionate about the material and who truly cares for the student and their success. A good teacher will always want to see their student succeed, and will go above and beyond to form a bond with the student and assist them to the best of their ability, which is the approach to teaching that I am very fond of myself.

Details

Pricing is negotiable and varies based on the duration of the tutoring and the intensity of the curriculum set up! Most full curriculums will be anywhere from the $35-40/hr range, but a simple skill-sharpening and proofreading can range from $25-30/hr.
