About Omer
Hey, I'm Omer! I'm a junior at the University of San Francisco majoring in Psychology with a minor in Neuroscience.
METHODOLOGY:
I've taken psychology courses in in learning & memory and cognitive science, from which I use techniques in teaching my students how to learn, rather than just learn. I am a huge advocate for teaching in a way that allows my students to not only learn facts, but learn the concepts and ideas that come with them, allowing them to succeed by themselves in relevant areas.
EXPERIENCE:
I have experience in tutoring high school students one-on-one, as well as K-8 classroom teaching experience. I currently tutor my 4th grade brother in all elementary subjects.
TEST PREP:
I am a qualified tutor for all college entrance exams, and bring unique insights to taking these tests. I scored a 35 on my second ACT, a 33 without studying and only using techniques, and understand not only the material on the test but also HOW to take the test. I received a 1490 on my SAT, and became a National Merit PSAT Scholar. I also have consistently high scores in SAT Subject tests and AP exams, backed by both my methodology and concrete study material.
HIGH SCHOOL: Test prep is an essential part of high school tutoring. In addition to that, I have experience with a multitude of AP classes and graduated high school with an AP Scholar with Distinction award.
ELEMENTARY & MIDDLE : I currently tutor my 4th grade brother and have experience teaching children K-8, but I prefer tutoring students 3rd grade and older.
When tutoring, I take time to fully understand the ideas not only regarding but also surrounding the material. Thus, my tutoring is based around concept-based learning that allows for the student's deeper, holistic understanding of the material at hand.
The most rewarding part to me about tutoring is when my students reach the conceptual "click" and start figuring through problems on their own.
