About Marsha
For four years I have been tutoring ESL online to adults and young ones and have enjoyed assisting many to improve their English from the Beginning and Intermediate Levels. My focus is on Reading Comprehension, Pronunciation, Punctuation (reading and writing,) Conversational English and Basic Grammar.
My educational experience includes two years of university studying Music Education, and then up to the more present time, I completed a 20-hour TESOL Course to prepare me for tutoring ESL.
What I love about tutoring Engish is meeting many new people from all over the world, learning about their cultures and experiencing their progress as they strive to improve their English, both spoken and written. There are students who prefer conversation rather than reading and writing, and would like to focus on expanding their Engish vocabulary in their everyday lives.
One of my favorite subjects is Reading Comprehension because the student not only reads the story or text, but learns the theme of the story, how the characters develop as they read, and the meaning behind what has been written. The discussions after completing the text can be very interesting and beneficial.
As an English Tutor, I find that taking time to know your student is very important. I enoy learning about the students' interests, their hobbies, their culture and their goals, as far as English is concerned. The student has to be comfortable with whomever is teaching them, so during the first lesson, or if possible, the first two lessons, I like to ask them the appropriate questions for their age and receive their input on what they want to focus on. At times, the students might want to know more about their tutor or teacher, so I am willing to share my interests when asked.
Thank you for your time, and if you have any questions for me, please message me and I will respond as quickly as possible. Have a wonderful day!
Many years ago, I was a Teacher's Aide in an elementary school, as well as a substitute teacher from K-8th grade. Then I decided to stay at home with my children and began teaching piano lessons.
After teaching piano lessons in my home for several years, I worked full-time in a completely different work environment and retired in 2009. In 2012, I began to work as a family nanny and tutored children in math, science, reading, spelling and writing. I really enjoyed that very much, however, in 2018, I began to hear about a need for ESL teachers and some of my friends were involved in this, so I decided that I would start a new chapter in my life and I'm very happy I did. Teaching ESL has been very rewarding and life-changing. I have met many wonderful people from all parts of the world and hope to continue on this path for a long time.
I completed an online 120-hour TESOL course via The International Open Academy as of December, 2018 and studied music education for two years in college, a number of years ago. I am also an English tutor for ESL on an international website, where I have taught since January 2019.

I usually have a 30-minute trial lesson where the student and I discuss the specific needs they have, such as improving their fluency in the English language, English vocabulary, reading English and English grammar. We also talk about what interests or hobbies they enjoy and these give me ideas regarding writing or reading comprehension assignments.
When the student books another lesson, then I research materials that will be appropriate for the student and email these to the student. Upon completion of the homework, we review and discuss it.
Presently, I am working with some adult students who speak little English and some who speak good English, and all are seeking to improve their fluency in the English language. I had one medical student in China, another student in Russia and one in the U.S. As time went on, I had twelve students, some in Brazil, Italy, Spain and in the U.S. I also tutor children as well, starting at eight years of age.
Please look for someone who has a passion for teaching the English language and someone who will "go the extra mile" for their students. I would also look for someone who is patient, encouraging and has a sense of humor. In addition, you need a teacher who will commend you when you progress and who will motivate you to work hard to improve your fluency and communication. It's a matter of finding a teacher who really cares about you as a person and is willing to put forth extra effort to help you accomplish your goals.
I have found that many students appreciate challenges, so when I determine they are ready to take on more advanced assignments, we begin to work on the goal of accomplishing more as they accept the more difficult materials.
I have a student who speaks Hebrew and Russian and we both have a love for music. She and I both play the piano, so after we discuss her English homework, we discuss music terminology and I help her translate the words into English. She accompanies her daughter, who plays the violin, on the piano and she told me they were going to a contest and I said that I knew they would do well and they did. They won first place! I was very excited for them, so I felt it was such a privilege to share in that special moment.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should think through as to why they want to learn English or improve their English. Do they want to become more fluent to communicate better when they visit the U.S.? Do they work with English-speaking co-workers? Are they attending a college or university where there are many English-speaking students? Do they want to learn the grammar of the English language, such as the tenses, sentence structure and phonetics? Perhaps they might want to simply practice their English by having informal conversations. The students need to give their reasons much thought.

Marsha is an excellent teacher! During our lessons, we talked a lot about things that interest me and I learned a lot of useful words. Marsha is a kind and patient teacher and I feel very comfortable talking to her. I think my communication skills really improve a lot by taking lessons with Marsha.
Marsha is a wonderful person, a very benevolent and patient teacher. She is very active in the lesson, trying to help and understand everything that interests the student. She is always punctual and always tries to find good material for homework. She also helps me a lot with learning musical terms in English, as she taught piano and loves to play it. Therefore, our lessons delight us with the study of topics with common interests.👍🙂🎶
