We teach our students how to read music, play and sing, from beginner to advanced.

Rhapsody's music teachers are caring, talented professionals who gear their lessons around each student's needs, goals & pace.Our focus in on our students. Everyone learns differently, from children to adults. We get that!At Rhapsody Music Lessons, each student has the undivided attention of a well-qualified music teacher who works with them one-on-one to improve their skills. We believe that making music is joyful and we want to share our love of music-making with our students. We encourage them to spend time daily, practicing their instruments and working on their weekly lesson, so that we can continue helping them to build their skills. Step by step. Week by week!

Most of our students tend to study music with us for several years, as our teachers are capable of teaching from beginning through Advanced Levels. We see all kinds of students, some who...

1. Start as children and continue through high school

2. Come in for help with a specific role or show in theater

3. Start in elementary or high school and go on to a College of Music

4. Start as adults and sing in choruses, churches, karaoke bars, and bands

5. Start as adults and start entertaining at nursing homes, halls or churches

6. Are already skilled professionals and come to us for coaching, or to learn music theory, another instrument, or improvisation

7. Never play for another human being, besides themselves...but all are Music Makers!

I grew up in a musical family and started taking organ lessons at around 7 years of age. As I got older, I switched to the piano and continued my lessons into my teens. As an adult, I continued playing the piano and at one point was the female lead singer and emcee in a wedding band. During this time, my parents taught private music lessons. Later in my life, I followed in their footsteps. It seemed the natural thing to do and I'm very glad I did! It's one of the most rewarding things I've ever done.

Some of our teachers are professional musicians. Others are professional teachers employed by various schools in the area. All are skilled, qualified private music instructors.

About the lesson

From beginners to advanced students, we believe in a one on one approach to learning music. Every student is different and learns at their own pace - whether a child or an adult. We also take the time to match the best teacher to every student depending on their goals and specific needs. We want our students to gain a solid music education and enjoy doing it!

I don't know if there's a type. All of them are unique individuals whether they're 5 or 45. However, I am a piano instructor so those are the students I work with. I've taught children who are barely reading to adults who want to learn how to play the piano and finally have the time to do it. I've taught students who progress rather quickly and others who take their time and go through a piece of music more slowly. There is no right or wrong. I've worked with many different students and adapt their lessons to their unique personalities, strengths and goals.

I would ask them if they teach music theory, (how to read music) in addition to playing an instrument. That's important. Learning to play by ear only doesn't give you the solid musical foundation needed to pick up a piece of music, read it and learn to play or sing it. That's called sight reading. Having the ability to play by ear is not a bad thing at all. It's a gift! But, reading music is important. It opens doors you didn't even know existed!

Rhapsody Music Lessons was invited to provide background music at a local art school and gallery. It was a wonderful event and we were honored to be a provide music to add to everyone's experience!

Details

Music lessons, (piano, guitar, woodwinds and brass), are $27.00 per half hour and are once a week. Voice lessons are $30.00 per half hour or $60.00 per hour and are also once a week.
