About Devan

Hello! I give beginner and intermediate acoustic guitar lessons. These lessons focus on rhythm and practical playing ability and the love of music applied to guitar. I personally play a diverse range of different musical genres including blues-rock and fingerstyle guitar.

This diversity shows in my lessons allowing the student to naturally develop their own style and genre based on what they love. My lessons are personalized to the student's learning needs and learning speed.

If you're a more "seasoned with wisdom" individual, it is never too late to start learning to play guitar and love this amazing art. Some of my qualifications in playing ability stems from hard work and being an important part of my church worship team as well as being a part of past worship teams and sound technitian teams.

My teaching ability comes from my experience as a training manager in the restaurant industry.

I started teaching guitar when I was fifteen. I taught a few friends and some family members. All of them still play out of love for guitar and one of them is now an expert in guitar. My passion and skill for teaching helped me become an exellent training manager.

I was classically trained in orchestral instruments and later learned guitar and pursued it because it was more enjoyable.

About the lesson

A beginner first learns form. After that, form is applied to chords that are difficult to play without proper form. From there we learn basic cords and learn basic exercises that will assist in later lessons. For a new intermediate student, the first focus is assessing the knowledge of the student by demonstration. After that if any correction need to be made then corrections are made. Then intermediate level lessons begin with more than basic chords, a little bit of applied music theory, and any applicable exercises that will help moving into the advanced level.

I have worked mostly with students between the ages of twelve and seventeen. Students who are older learn based mostly on determination while younger students learn naturally but need training in improvisation to develop artistic skills as opposed to pure technical skill.

Look for a teacher who inspires you and encourages you to be the best that you can be.

Recently I have been playing more shows and I have been collaborating with other local artists who have shows in other states.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Honestly, any questions that a student has can be asked of the teacher before discussing lesson details. One main question that is imprtant to ask oneself is "Do I know more than my teacher?" If the answer is "yes" then the next question is "Why am I taking lessons from this teacher?". If the answer is "No." then a good teacher already knows your needs. It is easy to tell if a student is struggling on a certain topic because a real music instructor is good with music and can literally hear what a student is struggling on when that student plays.

First and foremost, lessons are once a week. Instead of traditional half hour lessons which are geat for making more money, but bad for learning, I give one hour lessons. These lessons are all priced equally and competetively.
