About Corinne

I cater my lessons to the student's goals, and I love helping my students grow in their musicianship and confidence. I have extensive experience in many styles and instruments, as well as songwriting and the engineering side of music, and am a full time working musician myself, so I bring real world application to my teaching techniques. I teach students from 5-70 years old, have been teaching privately for over 10 years. My specialties include voice, piano and acoustic guitar lessons.

I love seeing my students grow and become better musicians, no matter where they are in their musical journey. Teaching is in my blood, and I find great joy in helping others.

I have been teaching in various capacities since I was a teenager. To pay for my own lessons and to grow personally as an artist with the extra practice, I taught classes at my dance studio starting in 8th grade. I was fortunate enough to be selected as a dancer for a summer touring company that held competitions and classes and was in charge of demonstrating for various teachers during classes. In high school I started an a cappella group called The Echoes with some friends, and was the group leader my Junior and Senior year, where we performed locally. I was 1st chair trumpet in band, leading my section in the symphonic and jazz bands, and I have done several internships in audio engineering, songwriting, lighting and theatre, collaborating heavily with others in the industry.

I have been performing, playing and teaching music my entire life, and have a vast knowledge of both the music and theatre business and industry. My career has taken me to Florida, New York, Nashville, and now Charleston where I continue to work regularly as a professional musician. I have been blessed to have been able to follow my passion for music, theatre and dance, love to learn and share my knowledge with others as a teacher, mentor, coach, director, band leader and entertainer. I have been the private voice teacher at Wando High School for the past 9 years, teach online lessons through my home studio, and can be seen performing regularly around the low country. I have degrees in both Musical Theatre from Florida State University, and Audio Engineering from SAE Institute of Technology, and pull from that experience and knowledge as well to help my students follow their passions as artists and musicians.

About the lesson

When contacting my potential students, I ask questions about experience and goals beforehand and then we quickly chat at the beginning of the first lesson. I like to then see where my student is with competency on their instrument. I have a wealth of material to get started with any student regardless of level, and so we can start to work towards goals right away. I like to use materials from different sources, and have been teaching long enough to know where to pull from depending on the student. I like to give freedom to style preferences, and try to teach a solid foundation of technique and skills no matter what the genre.

I have worked with many different students at different levels, situations and goals. I have helped students with auditions at the middle school, high school and college level. I have worked with older adults, both beginner and seasoned, and I have worked with students anywhere from serious musicians to those who just want to "try it out". I have worked with those with special needs, and I enjoy teaching each individual student differently. Each person is unique with unique passions and wants, and so I like to not only teach but mentor.

This should be an enjoyable experience, and I'm here to help you grow as a musician, and explore your passion for music and the arts. I'm also here to give you the tools to be successful in whatever your goals are.

I can't really think of anything specific other than to say I always love it when a parent reaches out to thank me or to say that their child is practicing and looking forward to the next lesson. I know I am doing my job when my students find a passion for learning and instrument and becoming a better musician.
