About David

Greetings! I have more than twenty years experience teaching a wide variety of subjects to students from elementary school through high school and beyond. Although my certification is in history and social studies, I have taught courses in English/Language Arts, Algebra, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Spanish and ACT/SAT Test Prep. My experience includes seven years teaching students in a one to one setting.

I firmly believe that education is not a "one size fits all" proposition. Each learner has a unique learning style and skill set. An effective teacher must be able to identify the needs of the student and provide an experience best suited to that student's needs.

When I was in school, I had to work a little harder to succeed in Math. However, in the 9th grade I discovered how much fun Algebra can be. Over the years, I have developed a number of "tips and techniques" that help students to discover that learning Math can be a most enjoyable experience.

Since I learned the alphabet and discovered the magic of the written word I have been a compulsive writer. As a teacher, I strive to infect my students with the sense of joy that comes with the ability to express oneself through formal and informal essays, poetry and creative writing.

I am a certificated history and social studies teacher and hold a B.S.Ed. degree in History and Social Studies Education from Northern Arizona University. To me, learning about history is not a matter of memorizing a lot of names and dates. The past involved real people living real lives in a world quite different than our own. My approach to teaching history and other social studies courses is to help my student discover "the big picture" and how these subjects relate to their own lives.

I hope you will consider me for your tutoring needs. Please feel free to contact me should you have any questions or desire additional information.

I believe that knowledge is the most important asset a person can possess. With knowledge comes the ability to acquire not only the skills necessary to prosper but also to gain an understanding of the world.

I have always been passionate about education, both as a teacher and as a lifelong compulsive learner. I strive to instill in my students the same love of learning that has been such a big part of my life. Learning should be a joy, not a chore.
