About John
Only 8000 people or so (out of billions) have trained in my Xing Yi style. It is not elite, exclusive, or anything like that. However, it is very powerful. It allows one access to their true power. My teacher's teacher said "There are no words" once you access it's power. It has to be felt , or sensed. Also it is exciting for me to focus on healing aspects of the arts or ways to restore balance and defend ourselves. I have reached a level in which I would like to share what I have learned. I rejoined martial arts 17 years ago. I am able to teach chinese kenpo, Yang Style Tai Chi , basic strikes and self defense, and Xing Yi Chuan which is internal art style similar to kung fu. I am certified instructor in Xing Yi . For more information check out (concealed information)
I am passsionate about how the arts have helped me. I have seen it change others lives for the better. Another key element is that I want to pay back my teachers by inspiring others and setting themselves up to be the best they can be. I am a communicator, vessel for the knowledge that has been taught before me. Also I am eager to help people achieve their goals and if necessary help them heal.
I reached a level understanding and experience in which I thought I would be ready to start sharing what I've learned. I would also run the warm up and workout class when I was in a formal School and help beginners out since I was intermediate and or advanced rank
I have been a student of the arts for slightly over 13 years and train diligently. Certified instructor of Shing Yi Chuan. Green Belt in Chinese Kenpo. I have audited Muay Thai Boxing. I love sparring. I have trained in Brazilian Jui Jitsu , however I am not qualified to teach BJJ.

I assess each student to determine what is their goal and intention. If they want to take a trial lesson I offer one and go over one or two basic concepts. As that happens I can determine if I may be a good fit. If I am not what they are looking for I can point them in another direction.
I have worked with many.
If you are looking for martial arts or chi gung training on a serious level make sure the teacher has lineage. If they don't have any that is usually not a good sign. Make sure that the instructor is able to help you with your intent and your goal. For example if your goal is to compete and professionally fight.. or do tournaments I am not a good fit
I am fond that I started to meet people who might value my service. One seemed to get better range of motion and less pain in about three lessons.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
That is for the student to decide.
Consider if the teacher can offer what you are seeking to achieve?
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
John is a great teacher. He is patient with explaining each action, he teaches the name of each move, and he is flexible with pacing. I requested to speed up some moves pretty early once I felt comfortable and he was receptive.
He is full of knowledge and explained some of the history and meaning behind the teaching which I enjoyed and did not expect.
I am doing Chi Gung to manage stress, back pain, and retrain my breathing. It's working and I'm happy with the teachings. The ability to practice Tai Chi 24, John is very patient and has a lot of knowledge in the martial arts.
John DeSmet is a certified instructor of Kenny Gong style Shingyi Chuan - one of the most unique Chinese martial arts. I highly recommend him, his passion for these arts is obvious.
I love working with John because he is kind and thorough. He is humble and guiding. His knowledge is second only to his own teachers. He is always strengthening his own understanding and learning more and more ways to help his clients achieve what they are seeking to gain from each discipline being studied. John's love for the healing and strengthening parts of the disciplines he teaches, is spot on. I sought his help to increase my body balance and coordination, as I worked to strengthen my body, after I experienced a set of debilitating ischemic strokes. And working with John helped me do that. I continue to strengthen and grow through John. I recommend you give him a try and lean into your own transformational success. Greater success begins with our willingness to grow. With John, your growth will match your interest.
John is wonderful teacher and kind soul. He is very through in transferring information about technique and style within the Martial Arts form. He is very knowledgeable about many Martial Art forms and is a lifelong student of the Martial Arts himself. He will work with you and set goals on what you want to achieve with your sessions to improve your form and skills. I highly recommend John as a teacher.

Since I don't have a space that I rent, I can offer private lessons for a more affordable rate than many that are at my level of experience and have to pay rent or lease a space. (Roughly 14 years total in several disciplines) I have a standard rate but it really depends on the students goals, location. frequency of lessons , etc.
