About Brian
I am a Masters In Teaching Graduate from the University of Washington Seattle for high school math and have over 8 years of tutoring (4 years for SAT/ACT/AP and 8 years for general curriculum). I enjoy teaching math to my students, but I mainly like to focus on helping my students develop independent study skills that will support them through life. What this means is building up the analytical skills that they will need to prepare and study for assignments and tests when they're going to go to college. There's only so much one can do in teaching the content that we also need to teach our students how they can become their own teachers and succeed on their own. Hence, I want my students not just to do well in their math classes or exams, but I also want them to be able to grow, so they will always be able to achieve their best on their own even without my help.
What I enjoy the most is helping the student learn and looking for those specific "aha!" moments. It's these experiences that make learning fun and I'm glad that I was able to take a part in helping the student learn.

My typical process is that I like to ask questions to get a better idea of where the student is at and what kind of content the student needs to work on and have an idea of what kind of workstyle he/she is.
Is this student someone who struggles with understanding story problems? Does the student make a lot of mistakes? These are the first things I try to look at.
