About Tiyobista
I am a recent graduate of George Washington University, where I pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics. I have always enjoyed mathematics, and I have provided math tutoring in high school in the Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society. I have taken the following coursework while in high school, and I have taken higher-level math courses in university. I understand complex mathematical concepts and understand how to best explain them in a comprehendible manner. Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus, Calculus I&II (AP Calc AB&BC) I have scored in the 90th+ percentile in SAT Math scores and received a score of 4+ on AP Calc exams.
In the many levels I have taken mathematics courses, I found the fundamental element in a successful math teacher, professor, and tutor is simplicity. The ability of an educator to explain complex problems in a digestible and applicable way. Unfortunately, tutors and teachers can often not know what students are struggling with because they can't place themselves in their shoes. My goal as a tutor is to simplify complex mathematics and equip you with the best tools to do well in your academics.
I have over two years of experience in tutoring high school mathematics. I have spent a couple of hours a week with students struggling in algebra, algebra 2, pre-calculus, etc. Over this period, I have tutored dozens of students for 50+ hours of math tutoring. The way I would assist them is truly understanding the objectives of the course, assess their abilities in the skill set required, work through problem-solving, and knowledge review/retention.
