About Elijah
Hello, my name is Elijah (Eli) Vu. I have been an academic tutor for almost 3 years now, and I have been online tutoring for around 9 months now due to the COVID outbreak. I have completed Calculus 1, 2, and 3 as well as Discrete Math and Linear Algebra at Diablo Valley College and achieved an A in all of them (DVC Transcript is available for proof on request). I am always willing to go the extra mile for my clients, and want nothing more than to see them succeed with their goals. One of my biggest strengths is being able to explain complex math topics in ways that are easier to understand and conceptualize. I look forward to meeting you all!
Math concepts can be hard to understand, but I am able to breakdown these concepts in an easy to understand manner.
Teaching has always been a love of mine, so I started as soon as I could (around 3 years ago).

I typically like to take 2-3 minutes to introduce ourselves and our interests. I like to start this way just to make my clients feel more comfortable. It also gives me insight into how to frame questions so that they will be easier to understand and more engaging. For example, I might frame a calculus 1 limit question in terms of car racing, if my client likes cars.
High school mainly, although I have worked with college students before.
Find a teacher that you can connect with and can explain things well. Not everyone who is good at something can explain it well. On top of that, your teacher shouldn't be a "spartan" teacher; they should keep a respectful and friendly attitude towards their clients.
A recent fond memory of mine is when my dog layed perfectly centered on a small blanket that we had left on the couch. For context, we don't allow our dogs on the couch without a blanket on it so that they don't shed all over it. Well, there happended to be a single, crumpled-up blanket on the couch, so my dog squeezed herself onto it and fell asleep. I was about to tell her to get off, but I realized that she had "technically" followed the rules and burst out laughing.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Think about if you can solve it on your own first; don't go to your teachers because you just don't want to go through the effort of completing whatever you need from them. Only ask them for something if you physically can't do it yourself.

Eli was an incredibly helpful support to my daughter with 7th grade math. His explanations greatly simplified concepts for her and helped decrease her frustration with subject matter. We were able to maintain a regular schedule until she was confident, then schedule maintenance sessions as needed. Would highly recommend Eli for math tutoring.
Eli is an outstanding Math tutor with the utmost patience and with great clarity to explain the concepts to children. My son has really valued the time spent and pulled the math grade up two letter grades.
The very best tutoring for my son Gabe in 8th grade. Eli is very patient and knowledgeable. He helped my son get an A in computers and we plan on using Math2GO again for high school.
Did an excellent job explaining concepts! Was patient, understanding, and very instructive!
