About Christina

Hi there! My name is Christina and I've been teaching math for about 4.5 years. I have taught over 200 kids from different ages ranging from 8 to 18 so many different subjects, but math is my favorite one to teach. Currently, I mainly teach 5th and 6th graders and 9th - 12th graders! With my experience, I've been able to improve grades within 2 lessons.

Fun Fact: I also currently teach math for (concealed information) under my old middle school teacher!

My service stands out because I understand what it feels like to struggle with math and I don't judge where they're coming from. When I was in elementary, middle school and high school, I barely passed math. I would cry and feel helpless because all my other friends were doing so well and I would always struggle to pass. When I got to college, I understood why I was struggling so much and started getting A's in math! I didn't realize when I was a kid, my fundamentals needed the most help and there are strategies that would improve my math skills. I'm happy to help out however I can.

Previous subjects I've taught include:

Math (Basic Math, Pre-Algebra, Intermediate Algebra, Algebra, Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus)

Computer Science (Basic coding, HTML/CSS, JavaScript, Object-Oriented, Data Structures)

Swimming

I love getting to know my students and watch them succeed in a subject they're struggling in! I love getting to understand my student's learning style, breaking down the problem and making problems relatable! I also make time to learn and talk about other subjects that can tie in with whatever I'm teaching so math can be fun.

I used to struggle badly in math when I was a kid and I never want anyone else to struggle like that again.

I started teaching because I love talking with people and teaching things new to people. I started out coaching swimming for 3 years and began loving breaking down skills to help people.

I have a B.S. in Cognitive Science at UC San Diego. There, I've taken classes on how to retain memory, create better study habits and understand how the mind works!

About the lesson

I love getting to know who I will be teaching through a small introduction call.

FREE - 10-15 minute call about what you're looking for and how I can help. I want to get to know how you have been doing in math and what you've been struggling with as well! I'll explain what a typical session will look like, pricing and scheduling as well.

During tutoring session - We'll do a small warm-up so I know how your math skills are currently! We'll work on some problems related to what you're struggling with, and if you're caught up, I'll aim to teach you something new! At the end of your lesson, we'll make some actionable items for next session.

I've worked with all age groups and all different types of students! I've mainly worked with students to build confidence in math and learn math skills through visual learning. I'm a heavily visual learner so I will write every step down for you if you're confused to see what is going on!
