About Skylar

I want you to understand the ideas and fundamentals of the subject. I teach in a Socratic method where I will be directing you towards the answer through questions. Then from these questions you will have the opportunity to self discover the answers. However, I will not shy away at explaining the answer to some questions when needed. For example, I will work through solutions and proofs with minimal questions sometimes, as, it's better to listen and learn.

When the idea clicks within the student's head and they have that "ohh" moment. Showing strong understanding of the subject.

Formally, at Mathnasium three years ago. I always liked teaching as a kid. My goal is to get a research professor position in mathematics.

I am a mathematics senior at UNT. I tutored at Mathnasium for two and a half years. I tutored third grade math to AP calculus and created lesson plans for basic linear algebra. I studied graduate level math in Russia for a year. While I was there, I helped out tutoring seventh grade students at the college I was attending in basic pure math and logic.

About the lesson

I'll come prepare with a list of questions ranging from many different topics appropriate towards the student's level. We will work together solving these problems with a strong focus on understanding the philosophy behind these questions. After or before these questions, I will ask the student what is their goal. If they want to truly learn and understand the beauty of math or do they want a more algorithmic process of math. Even if the student wants a more algorithmic process, I will still teach the philosophy behind the subject to a point. After this, if there is nothing prepared for me to help on. I will leave and compile the data that I collected and start making lessons plans.

I worked with three year olds up to eighteen year olds. All spans of schooling below college.

Look for someone who enjoys teaching and will teach you the fundamentals. If you find someone who isn't excited and won't teach you the fundamentals. You'll be bored during the class and forget all of it. It's easy to forget algorithms, hard to forget solid understanding of the topic.

I am in communication with a proffessor to start doing research in math foundations and logic.
