About Jaspreet
Hi, I'm Jaspreet! I graduated from UCLA with a Bachelors of Science in Biology in 2020.
In my time at UCLA, I gained experience with working with youth. As a mentor for the Youth Empowerment Program, I formed bonds with underpriviliged elementary students in the greater Los Angeles areas in order to be a resource for them, whether it be for school work or life in general. I was also an intern for TEACH (Together Educating and Advocating Community Health). At an afterschool program at an elementary school, I helped students achieve reading goals, assisted with math homework, created modules to teach the classroom about various public health topics, and led physical activities outside the classroom.
Additionally, I was a Pedagogy Learning Assistant in a course where we conducted experiments in he areas of physiology, metabolism, cell biology, molecular biology, genotyping, and bioinformatics. In addition to being an academic resource to undergraduate students, I taught other Learning Assistants effective methods on teaching students in STEM subjects equitably.
I love igniting the "lightbulb moment" with the students I have the privilege working with. As someone who has definitely had struggles in the past with certain subjects, it is one of the best feelings to have something click when learning material where you finally have the conceptual understanding that allows you to move forward. I want to help students achieve that a little faster by being a resource that will not just teach concepts but allow them to develop techniques and gain the academic confidence to realize their potential.
