About Michelle

I have been a math teacher for 13 years. My Bachelors and Masters degrees are in secondary math education. My teaching experience includes 7th grade math, 8th grade math, Algebra 1, Aglebra 2 for Mesa Public SChools. I have also taught the following Maricopa College math courses: MAT 081 (aritmetic), MAT 092 (Algebra), MAT 126 (intermediate algebra) and MAT 150 (College algebra). I do own a document camera which I can hook up and you can see what I am writing for online tutoring if that is something a student prefers to in person tutoring. After the pandemic, I learned how to use online programs like WebEx that can be used for remote tutoring.

I love helping students understand math better and understand why we do the math rules that we do. I really believe that if students know things like why we add exponents when we multiply in algebra, etc that it will help students retain and enjoy math more. I am very passionate about teaching and care about my students like they are my own kids.

My dad was a teacher and I really enjoy teaching. I struggled with math at first because I did not have good teachers and often found myself teaching myself from the book. Now that I've taught for 13 years, I understand math so much better and know why we do the rules and steps we take in math problems now. I have the patience and experience needed to help students who really struggle with math.

Bachelors and Masters in math education. I have taught math for 13 years (junior high, high school and college level collectively).

About the lesson

I will ask the student what they want to work on and if I notice they are having trouble due to previous topics, I will make up problems or reteach those topics. I can cater to what my students needs are and what my students want to accomplish during the tutoring sessions. Usually students will bring their homework and we will work on problems off their homework or I make problems similar to practice together. We also can study for exams. If a student is interested in getting ahead for a future class, I can create practice problems and I can teach topics to get students ahead.

I've worked with math students from 7th grade through college. The highest math that I will tutor is college algebra (MAT 150).
