About Logan

I have a bachelors in Mathematics, and am pursuing a PhD in Pure and Applied mathematics starting in the fall. I will be working as a teaching assistant, and absolutely love mathematics :D

I have worked as a Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, and other subjects teacher for 2 years, at Arizona State University and at Brigham Young University of Hawaii.

I love Trigonometry, Calculus (I/II/III), Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, Probability, Complex Analysis, etc.

I have done some work with Ring Theory, but not a whole lot yet.

I absolutely love mathematics and hope to share my passion for it with you. I want you to intuitively understand and to have fun with mathematics. :D

I will do my best to help you understand how to solve problems, how to reason through them, and why things are the way the are. If you have a preferred learning methodology I can try to tailor my approach to that as well.

I do not have a lot of experience teaching online, but I am constantly striving to improve the experience and to make it as fluid as possible.

Mathematics is extremely fun for me, and sharing that passion with others makes me very happy. It's like sharing really cool and exciting secrets with others. I hope to make mathematics more fun if I can, and really enjoy working with students and helping them understand and solve problems.

I've always found myself tutoring friends and family in mathematics and computer science, and when I went to college it was only natural to get a part-time job working as math tutor. As I aspire to be a professor of Mathematics one day, teaching is something I love and find very fulfilling.
I also worked as an English teacher in Japan for 8 months.

I have a bachelors in Mathematics, and two years (roughly) experience working as math tutor at ASU and BYUH. I received various trainings there, and have a long history of tutoring friends even before then.
I am pursuing a PhD program starting in the fall of 2020, and will be working as a teaching assistant.

About the lesson

Usually a student will contact me to explain what they need help with, whether that is homework, or understanding certain topics within their courses, and will schedule an appointment with me.
Then we will skype or zoom, and we will work through the problems together, or I will teach them about the topic they asked me to explain.
Usually we would start off with them explaining what they are struggling with, and I will go from there.

I have worked with students from all kinds of backgrounds, but most of my experience is working with College-level students. I have worked with students who needed a lot of help, and some that only needed a little help, but I always try to help the students build the skills to reason through problems and understand them, so that even when I am not helping them they are able to succeed.

I would advise a student to go with someone that has a degree and a decently long record of tutoring. (2 years +).
I would also suggest that more expensive does not always mean better, but that reviews are important.
If the tutor does not have great reviews, read what the reviews are saying. If they are huge issues, then avoid that tutor.
Also, make sure the tutor is easy to contact and responsive.
That usually indicates their work ethic and how they approach their work.

I recently was teaching English in Japan. It was a really fun experience, and being in an environment where everyone is speaking in a foreign language (Japanese) was interesting. I speak Japanese decently well, so this was not a huge issue, but I often had to ask the teachers to re-iterate or rephrase what students were saying from the local dialect into standard Japanese. Having the flexibility to explain things in many different ways is important to improving understanding, not just in Japanese but also in Mathematics.

What are you struggling with?
How can the teacher best help you, and what do you hope to get out of the lesson?
What is your history with regards to Mathematics, and is there anything that you might need to review with the teacher before attempting the problems you are facing?
There is no shame in reviewing basic topics before tackling harder ones. Having a solid foundation is important to problem solving and will help you both understand how to solve various problems and will give you ammunition to explore different possible ways of solving problems. The more you understand the more clearly you imagine various approaches to new problems.

My pricing is flexible. Ideally I would receive at least 11$ / hr in pay, but if the student is financially burdened I would be willing to settle for 9$ and hour or so.
