About Caryn "Ryn"

I am a 28 year old female in my junior year at UW-Milwaukee. If such a thing existed, I would be a professional student! I'm a Cell and Molecular Biology major, with a minor in English. Upon graduation, I will be going for my teaching license and my masters degree. So, not only am I going to be tutoring and teaching for quite some time, I also also have the unique perspective of being the "teacher" and the student. I will constantly be learning new subjects and new teaching techniques due to my ongoing education. What makes me stand out is how much I care! I put my heart and soul into my tutoring because it is my true passion. I do volunteer work as well with tutoring for under privileged children because I truly believe in and love what I do. I primarily focus on grades 1-12, though I have tutored college students as well. I also cover a wide range of subjects, so you won't need 5 tutors for 5 different subjects!

I remember my first tutoring job- I was working with a 5th grader with minor learning disabilities. She was very far behind in every subject. My first tutoring job was my toughest, yet my most fulfilling. She struggled so much in the beginning and my heart went out to her. I promised myself I wouldn't give up, and for nearly 2 years I have been her tutor. The first time something (a math problem) truly "clicked" for her on something she struggled with- I saw the light in her eyes and you could see the "click" all over her face. It was in that moment that I fell in love with teaching. In the 1.5 years of tutoring Nelly (not her real name), she has grown more than I could have ever anticipated. She went from reading in a low first grade level to a mid-high fourth grade level. She could only do very basic addition, and now she has mastered complex addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, unit conversions, and even some algebra! She also discovered her own passion in our tutoring- the girl who HATED science found passion in anything related to physics, circuits, and engineering. It was through tutoring her I realized that ANY person could learn anything through proper guidance and hard work. I also knew this was where I belonged, and found my true calling. I love school, learning, and being of service to others.
