About Jacob

*I have always enjoyed witnessing the moment at which the math topic clicks for the person to whom I'm explaining.

*the average grade in maths I have received throughout my student life is a low 90.

I have taught my siblings, I have taught fellow classmates, and I have a general love for teaching that I have not been given an opportunity to explore until now.

I have graduated with an Associates Degree in computer science. This degree required college algebra, precalculus, calculus 1, calculus 2, discrete math, and linear algebra. During this time, I spent most of my evenings studying witha group, often confirming my own understanding of the topic by teaching them. I also received a plaque from my CCBC which reads, "Outstanding Achievement in Mathematics Perseverance". They did misspell my last name though.

About the lesson

There is overlap in the way that many students learn, but typically adaptive tutoring is the way in which I find the most success. Repeating the same explanation several times is the way in which many parents default to, and unfortunately leads to nothing but frustration. I prepare and fit several explanations/analogies to the subject in hopes that it will connect. In the event of that failing, I will often break the topic down into its base parts and rebuild it for them. Many times, I have found that the difficulty understanding a topic is due to one or more of these base parts being poorly understood. I take my work personally in everything that I do. If I fail to properly tutor, I will have failed my own standards.

The actual process by which I operate is as follows: an initial video meeting (to affirm expectations), provide to me the material being studied, and two days at most to prepare the necessary material and more to provide future services. Refer to my pricing. Other than aforementioned, details may be discussed and modified per the client's request. Due to current circumstances, all meetings will be through video call.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Be honest. Do not feel ashamed for not knowing something. List out those things that you're unsure of. Admitting to a shortcoming will benefit you more the quicker it's addressed. I've known all sorts of people. Such as those who have waited until their second year of college to learn multiplication. As long as you are willing, you will get better.
