About Seung

Hey! My name is Sean and I have been tutoring and fostering growth in my students since I was in high school working at Kumon Math and Reading. Through my years of tutoring there, I see how public education sometimes leaves people behind or slows them down which causes tension when learning a subject. I believe that all people learn differently and at different rates, and so careful consideration in lesson planning is crucial in fostering true understanding of a subject. With that in mind, I would be happy to work with you to accomplish your goals at a pace that works for you!

I have worked as a tutor at Kumon Math and Reading throughout high school and a little bit during my spare time after college. I have worked with students at various levels from basic counting all the way up to advanced algebra.

About the lesson

I would first like to have a conversation with the student, whether through email or video call, to see what your goals and milestones are as well as your constraints in time and resources. During this time, I would also like to know any textbooks that you use or a syllabus with your curriculum.

From there we can discuss how you would like to proceed with your tutorage. We can go back and clear up any misunderstandings you have or we can march on forward at a pace that works for you. I am also happy to help working with your in your homework, but I will not be simply giving you the answer as that is counter-intuitive to your learning.

I have worked with a variety of students from special needs to students in "accelerated" courses. My experience at Kumon fortified my understanding that a child's rate of learning should not be pushed to the point of frustration, but at the same time they should be encouraged to exceed their own expectations.

Don't be shy and definitely don't be embarrassed about not knowing anything! We all go through that period of confusion before we learn anything new. Just be honest to yourself and what you want to accomplish.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Definitely think about your commitment to your education, how much time can you commit daily to learn or practice. Although I encourage daily excersize even for 20-30minutes, sometimes thats not feasible. However, you must commit some time outside our lessons to devote yourself to learning the subject.

Details

I will not charge until we have developed your lesson plan/schedule after our first discussion. Afterward, I will typically charge about $15 a half hour or $25 for a full hour. This price includes my time I spend outside our lessons to plan for your next lesson.
