About Keith J
I began teaching small groups about computer graphics in the 1980s during the evenings while working at a graphics company. Later I taught rudimentary web design. I also taught a course in abstract painting techniques for two years both in a gallery setting and in my private studio.
I have been a professional, working artist for over 40 years, utilizing my skills and talents to earn my living solely from art during that time. Graphic design, computer graphics and illustration were career skills and I have completed over 400 fine art paintings and sculptures in many genres. Along with owning a gallery and working at several other galleries, I have an extensive knowledge in art history and have helped mentor several other artists in their careers. My work has been represented in 12 galleries in the midwest and eastern U.S. I also have completed several commissions for firms in Texas, Washington D.C., Ohio and Indiana including Lilly and Community Hospitals. My work is in several private and corporate collections as well as textbooks and learning manuals.

I first ask about any art experience they have and ask to see examples of any past works. This gives me an idea of their level of talent and experience. I then ask what it is they're hoping to gain from the classes so that we're both starting on the "same page" with our expectations. I touch briefly on art history with some examples to show the student what other artists can show us and for inspiration.
Once the above has happened, I start with very easy-to-follow instructions on how to loosen up, get familiar with the medium and learn to be completely unafraid of diving right in and letting go.
Adults who are interested in furthering their skills at art, at both the beginner level and more advanced level.

I took some lessons from Keith on how to add photos to my website. He was very patient and helped me through the process of cropping, adding borders and eventually placing them in the pages. I'd recommend him as a teacher and if he lived closer to me, I'd love to take more classes!
