About Grant

Customized the lesson plan for each student & we specialize in teaching improv and composition, Grant has been teaching for over 40 years and has a Classical background as well as Jazz, Pop, R & B, Country & Ragtime plus Pipe Organ theory, if you want to have fun & enjoy the process of achieving your goals and aspirations, look no further. Grant takes beginners as well as seasoned musicians who need to improve their chops.

It is very rewarding when the student really takes off with the instruction and it opens new doors of expression and creativeity.

One of my teachers had recommended I start giving lessons to beginners and it went from there back in 78, I found it quite rewarding expecially if there was progress every week.

I have studied 3 years with Charles Pratt, Ragtime and Modern Specialist, Classical Piano 3 years with Prof Richard Grayson of Occidential College, 2 years Jazz Piano with Abby Frazier Former Director @ CBS Music 2 Years of Pipe Organ techniques, Santa Monica College, have played professionally since 1976 both solo and bands multiple styles, have taught piano since 1978 from beginner to advanced levels

I can teach any level and I specialize in teaching how to compose and improvise.

Find a teacher you click with that teaches the style(s) you are most interested in pursuing, try a test lesson and go from there, many teachers like myself still make house calls which helps a student stick to the lesson plan in my experience

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
There is a financial element that is up to the student in regards to affordable lessons. I recommend 1/2 hr lesson for under 12 and 45-1 hour for 12+, You will need a practice instrument that is readily available as daily practice is recommended and I suggest lessons once a week or at least bi-monthly

Practice every day is essential for progress to proceed rapidly.

Details

Typically is a dollar a minute with the min lesson 30 minutes which is what I recommend for children 6-10 This is pricing at my studio, if you want lessons at your residence its 1.50 per minute or 45.00 per 1/2 hour for example I recommend weekly lessons and at least 1 hour per lesson for 11 and over.
