About Kathy

I do a custom workout, and have a very good eye for corrections. I’ve been teaching over 30 years, and have continued to keep up my education. I work with individuals that have injuries as well as clients that want to get fit. I do a full posture evaluation.

I enjoy working with all kinds of clients. I love seeing results, with whatever the focus is.

Challenging my client, with the appropriate level. I progress my students in a healthy way. I give corrections. I say corrections are a gift, and I’m here to help.

I was a professional dancer in New York, back in the 80s. I was at the Martha Graham school. I was a hard worker, but my alignment was a little off. So I went to the Pilates Studio, and worked with Crola Trier. She was one of the original teachers, and in those days it was mostly professional dancers in the studio. After working with her for six months, I got a scholarship at the school. I found my love for Pilates, and studied in New Your for eighteen years.

Kathy Thomson is a Pilates and CoreAlign instructor. She began her career in San Francisco as a scholarship student with the San Francisco Ballet. She moved to New York in 1979 to attend the Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance. Kathy was a member of the Martha Graham Ensemble and was a charter member of the certification program to teach the Graham Technique.

In 1980, Kathy began studying the Pilates Method with Carol Trier — one of Joseph Pilates's original teachers — in New York City. Kathy also studied with Deborah Lessen, who co-founded the Pilates Method Alliance (PMA). In the mid-1980s, Kathy became the Director of Dance at the Masters School, a private high school in Dobbs Ferry, New York. She received her Pilates certification from master teacher Carol Appel in San Francisco and became a member of the PMA. In 1997, Kathy founded the Reach Pilates studio at Reach Fitness in Palo Alto. In addition to teaching private and group sessions, she coordinated two teacher trainee programs for Reach Pilates.

Kathy is passionate about working with her clients's individual needs to help develop functional awareness through the practice of Pilates.

About the lesson

I do a full postural assistant, and I look at gate, flexiblity, and strength. I teach on-line, and I do some demonstration. The way I teach is, with my keen eye, and help students get the most out of the exercises. I use imagery, and my voice to lead my students.

I’ve worked with people that are fit, as we’ll as people that are in pain, and have injuries.

Because I’ve been teaching for so many years, I specialized in injury bases Pilates.
