About Tamara

I am a recent graduate from Fontbonne University with a degree in Special Education. My background consists of 5+ years working as a paraprofessional in various special education classrooms followed by a certified teaching position as a junior high Life Skills teacher. As a paraprofessional, I spent 1 year working at the middle school level, 3 1/2 years working in an elementary Autism classroom, and 1 + years in an elementary cross categorical classroom. Due to these experiences, I have a vast background on working with students of various academic levels, specific needs, and differentiating material.

Teaching has been a passion I discovered later in life after having my son. I discovered how much I love working with him to experience new things, learn, and grow. After going back to school, I realized just how much I love doing what I do. Watching students work hard to grow their skills and get new concepts they previously struggled with is one of the biggest joys in my career. I also enjoy getting to work with students, getting to know them, and show them how to have the confidence they need as they learn. I'm looking forward to continuing this outside of my own classroom and helping more students be the best version of themselves.

I began a career in education over 5 years ago. I worked as a paraprofessional while continuing my education in education. After spending several years working in accounting for a variety of companies, I decided I needed a change. Teaching is my passion I discovered when working with my own children and their learning. I enjoyed being able to watch them grow and have carried that joy into my own classroom. The greatest joy I get is by helping students learn skills they didn't think they could do and help them gain a confidence in their learning.

I graduated from Fontbonne University with a 3.98 GPA with a Bachelor's in Special Education. Aside from my degree, I participated in hours of training and professional development focusing on working with students who struggle in different content areas including math and reading. I have also been trained in Applied Behavior Anaylsis and worked doing ABA style learning for 3+ years.

About the lesson

Starting my education career as a paraprofessional has provided me with experiences working with multiple types of students. I have worked with students with Autism, ADD/ADHD, learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities, and Down Syndrome. I have also worked with gifted students, students who struggle in only one content area such as reading, and students being in the process or receiving an IEP. Finally, I have years of experience with students with behaviors that may cause a delay in learning.
