About Zoe
Hi there! My name is Ms. Smith.
I have a unique approach of teaching reading and writing through project-based learning and role playing games(RPG), specifically Dungeons and Dragons!
I graduated from ASU (Mary Lou Fulton Teacher's College) with a BA in education, I am highly certified in middle school Social Studies but also love to teach reading and writing.
I taught 8th grade social studies for two years. In that two years, my favorite tool I’ve incorporated to encourage students to become motivated and excited to read and write has been Dungeons and Dragons. I started a before-school club at our middle school, which quickly became the most popular club in the school due to the new season of Stranger Things popularizing D&D. What I found, is that students who struggled with feeling motivated about practicing reading and writing, got really motivated to practice really fast once they figured out it would help them with building a cool D&D character.
I had a few students who even started building their own worlds which was so exciting to help with.
I bring an engaging, student-centered approach to my classroom.
D&D has helped my students expand their creativity, improve reading and writing skills, improve communication skills, and make friends.
