About Andrew

I don't just teach out of method books. I explain how the instrument works, I'll guide you to achieving your personal goals, help you become a better all around musician, and make sure you have fun!

I have been performing, mentoring and teaching since 1984 and I'm passionate about sharing my experience and knowledge with musicians at any stage of their artistic journey.

Music is my passion, and I've had a long relationship with the trumpet. It is always challenging, always rewarding, and a lot of fun.

I love helping others explore their love of music and witnessing their discoveries and improvement first hand.

I also enjoy constantly learning, about music and about trumpet. It is an ongoing journey, and never dull.

I was working part time at a music store during college and several customers asked about trumpet lessons. The store had teachers for guitar, piano and drums, but not trumpet...

I earned a BA in Music from Mason Gross School of the Arts, and I have several decades of varied performance and leadership experience ranging from Drum & Bugle Corps to arranging and performing with top Philadelphia area ensembles.

About the lesson

First we'll talk about your experiences so far, your reasons for seeking guidance, and your musical goals.

Then we'll review how the horn works with some demonstrations you have probably never seen before!

And of course we'll do some playing together.

After our first session I'll prepare a custom approach just for you!

I've worked with young students just starting out, with adult musicians returning to the horn after many years, and with some active professionals.

Consider trumpet teachers who have had to overcome physical challenges on the horn, such as losing their chops or having to come back from a few years off. Those teachers may be more open-minded and adaptable than someone who has always had an easy time on trumpet.

A few months ago my band performed at a fundraising event to help cover medical expenses for someone who is fighting cancer. Our job was to set a party tone, and it was a very moving evening!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
For students brand new to trumpet: What do you like about music? What kind of music did you hear that made you want to learn to be a musician? What made you decide to learn trumpet?

For more experienced players: Think about your experiences so far. What did you enjoy, and what was difficult? Are you looking for someone to guide you to steady improvement, or do you have a specific issue you'd like to tackle?
