About Erin
Erin Napier, MM, is a freelance performer and music teacher in the Boulder/Denver area, and has nearly a decade's worth of experience working with students of all ages and ability levels. In 2019, she earned her masters degree in viola performance and pedagogy from the University of Colorado, Boulder. As part of her degree, Napier wrote her masters thesis, examining the parallels between the work of the famed violist Karen Tuttle and the Body Mapping method. It is able to be downloaded from CU Scholar, under the title "Fostering Freedom." Previously, she earned her bachelors dual degree in viola performance and music education from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 2017.
Though she is primarily a violist, Napier is also trained in Suzuki Books 1 and 2 on violin and viola, and currently teaches on both instruments. She holds a position as the director of the Gold Orchestra at the Intermezzo Academy of Music in Broomfield, CO, and serves as a regular viola instructor and mentor for the Greater Boulder Youth Orchestra and Longmont Youth Symphony.
In addition to her passion as an educator, Napier is also an avid performer, having numerous appearances in the local area. She holds the position of Assistant Principal viola with the Boulder Symphony, and also performs with both the Longmont and Fort Collins Symphonies. She was selected as a fellow for the 2019 National Repertory Orchestra, and has been chosen for several other performing opportunities in years past, including the Round Top Festival Institute, Brevard Music Center, and Bowdoin International Music Festival.
As a soloist, Napier was named a finalist for the 2019 Honors Competition at the CU Boulder College of Music, as well as a semifinalist for the 2018 Bruce Ekstrand Memorial Graduate Student Performance Competition.
I am trained in Suzuki Books 1 and 2 on violin and viola, and have earned two degrees: my bachelors in music education and viola performance, and my masters in viola performance and pedagogy.

When first getting started, I typically suggest setting up a brief "trial lesson" so we can all get to know each other better. This will help me determine the best course of action to meet the goals and needs of each individual student.
I have worked with students of all ages and ability levels in my experience, from those just starting out to students who are in pursuit of music as a career, to those who simply enjoy playing as a part of their lives.

Perfect! Erin showed up for the trial lesson on time, and had individualized approaches for each of my kids. They liked working with her. By the end of the lesson she had one playing, at their level, making beautiful sounds. Very pleased. Would recommend.
