About Lauren
I have been a private tutor for almost 6 years focusing mainly on Criminology, the Social Sciences and English as a Foreign Language. Alongside tutoring, I have been a humanitarian aid volunteer in different parts of the world.
I hold a MPhil in Criminological Research from the University of Cambridge and was awarded the Cambridge Trust scholarship, which covered full cost of tuition fees. In addition to this, I have a BA in Criminology and Criminal Justice with Year in Professional Practice from the University of Kent, and a Level 5 TEFL Certificate.
Outside of work, I love to travel! I've traveled to almost 50 countries across 4 continents and don't plan on stopping any time soon. I love cooking (and eating of course), scuba diving, yoga and hiking. I love to hang out with my friends on the weekend and go to music festivals from time to time.

I have tutored over 100 students from primary level through to Master's level in a range of subjects, although my main focus has been on essay/academic writing, thesis/dissertation proposals and planning and general editing/proof reading. My area of expertise lie within Criminology, the Social Sciences and Qualitative Research Methods. I also have two years of experience teaching English as a Foreign Language online.
I like to offer a free 10-15 minute call to first get to know my students and find out more about their goals and expectations. I then base my lessons around these goals. My lessons are usually informal but informative, and prefer to have a mix of teaching styles that allow the student time for independent work to relieve some of the intensity often associated with one-to-one tutoring. I expect the student to bring some material to the lesson, or at least have some working goal, which is complemented by my own resources.
Overall, I'm energetic, fun and professional, which I think is what has enabled me to retain a high volume of students over the past years. My aim is to make you feel as comfortable as possible and to make the scary seem a lot less scarier!
