About Chelsea
Art: the expression of creativity
Asana: taking physical shape/adopting a posture
Art+Asana: finding an outlet to express/experience creativity and allowing it to take shape
Hi! My name is Chelsea. I am an artist, art teacher (11+ years in the classroom, Masters of Arts in Art Education), yoga instructor (6+ years teaching, 200YT), Yogi (10+ years practicing), mother of twins, wife of amazing hubby, Jill-of-all-trades...you get the picture! I created ArtAsana to combine all of my loves - art, making art, mural painting, teaching, yoga, and fostering community while giving the soul the chance to exhale. I believe that we all crave the creative process and ArtAsana is my way of helping you create, move, experience, enjoy.
A yoga practice can be a form of art.
Have you ever wanted to take a yoga class or an art class but you are nervous about stepping into a studio? Or do you and your friends want to practice/learn in a private setting? Does your company need weekly or monthly yoga classes?
I teach private yoga sessions/private art lessons or group yoga sessions/group art sessions in any of the following:
- Art and yoga (combined art-making of your choosing with a yoga practice - ex: Mandala flow and Mandala making, visual journaling and setting goals through yoga, Chakra-inspired art and flow, etc)
- Painting Parties (guided painting classes for any age - great for wine and painting parties or kids' birthday parties)
- Painting (Acrylic, Oil, Watercolor), Drawing (basic intro to drawing), Clay (intro to wheel-throwing, slab-building, coil-building)
- Vinyasa/Power yoga (dynamic flow linking each breath to a movement - all levels)
- Hatha yoga (a little slower than vinyasa focusing on asanas/postures, breathing techniques and meditation)
- Restorative yoga (a type of yoga with minimal postures and props designed to be restful)
- Prenatal Yoga (for mamas-to-be/families-to-be)
I love helping others live a more fulfilled life, all the while doing the same for myself in doing work that I value and enjoy. Physical, mental and emotional health and well-being is very important to me and my family, and I love teaching yoga and art as it fosters a balanced, creative and healthy lifestyle. Additionally, it allows me to be creative and meet amazing students.
I completed my M. Ed. through the University of Notre Dame's service program - Alliance for Catholic Education in 2006. Since then I have spent 11 years teaching in the classroom and when I wasn't classroom teaching I really felt the call to teach yoga. I fell in love with teaching yoga when I completed my YTT and have been teaching ever since!
I completed my 200 hour YTT in 2013, and my Restorative training in 2014. I have been teaching consistently since, anywhere from 1-6 classes a week - group studio classes, private in-home sessions, art and yoga workshops and team-building sessions for organizations. Additionally, I work with my yoga teacher 1-2 times every week, as well as continue to take workshops for my own growth. I practiced while pregnant with twins so I have an even more in-depth understanding of prenatal practice.
I have my BA in art studio and art history, and my second Masters in Art Education. I have been an art teacher for 8+ years.

Prior to the first yoga session, I would have a student sign a liability waiver that also includes general information about health and level of practice/goals/injuries, etc. This information would help me determine what type of practice and program to build for my student(s).
The initial session would be a more basic practice to identify student's (or students') alignment, experience, stability, flexibility and balance. After this we would determine if it was a good fit for both of us and if we should continue. You have to feel comfortable with your yoga instructor!
For art-making we would discuss via email or phone in advance materials, level of art-making experience, goals and style preferences.
I have worked with many different types of bodies: aging bodies, athletes, experienced yoga practitioners, brand new yogis, students recovering from injuries, pregnant mamas, and post-partum mamas. I enjoy working with all different students and I enjoy growing with my students as we learn what works for their bodies and how we can tailor their yoga practice to best support their goals.
I would advise the student to be confident about speaking up when working with a teacher - especially in one-on-one sessions. You absolutely want to trust your yoga teacher and know that they are keeping you safe, but it is a two-way street. It is important to engage with your teacher to let them know how you feel/when something doesn't feel right, and equally so it is important to know that your teacher is going to honor that! Long story short - you want to have a teacher you are comfortable establishing a rapport with and with whom you are comfortable telling them how you feel in the postures.
I enjoy many aspects of teaching and practicing yoga. I love teaching my larger group classes at my yoga studio and working with my students there, but I also love my at-home practice with my own instructor. I recently injured my shoulder and while I am not fond of the injury, I am very appreciative of how it makes me have to be creative in my own practice. I am also very appreciative of how creative my own instructor is while working with my injury.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What is the goal of my practice?
What am I comfortable with - am I comfortable having physical adjustments and assists from a teacher?
Am I willing to speak up for myself if something doesn't feel right?
Do I have any injuries that are important to inform my teacher of?

A knack for keeping the flow creative, strong, and accessible, Chelsea holds the space as teacher without leaving you wondering "How" you’re going to keep up. Her understanding of the body within the asana practice is woven throughout the skeleton of her flow and provisions are always given to insure you and your abilities within the movement are seen; whether to modify in a more or less intense way.
One of my favorite things about her teaching style is that she is there for YOU as the student and she meets you where you are at that day rather than sticking to some agenda. Her personality is warm and inviting and I feel like I can trust her with whatever she brings to the table.
I’m very specific with whom I allow to guide my practice. I always feel safe in where we are going and feel confident with the postures Chelsea provides. I also like that she is knowledgable in her assists and that she brings a theme to every class. I prefer to use my practice as a guide to something much deeper than the physical and I appreciate that Chelsea provides me with the space to practice meditation in motion. She focuses on proper technique and provides modifications if you cannot quite do the poses or if you want to perform at a higher level!
Chelsea is so warm and welcoming. As someone new to yoga she really put me at ease right away. She made me feel comfortable and really guided me as I learned new poses. I look forward to more sessions with Chelsea and will continue to recommend her to my friends.
I like that Chelsea listens to what my physical limitations and nagging issues are, and then puts me through a yoga flow that is appropriate for my level and goals. I also like that I can practice at my house, while getting individualized instruction. It has really helped my form a lot, and made me feel more confident attempting harder poses.

I charge $50 for a 60 minute session if students are willing to travel to me. If I have to travel, then I charge $75. The standard fee for a session/classes is the same so if students are willing to share sessions with friends it can lower the price per student. I am willing to do a group session up to 4 at the $50 or $75 rate.
Pricing for group painting parties varies but usually is around $35 per person.
