About Lisa

Trusting someone new with your time, money, and effort is a serious consideration, and it's a serious investment. I get that.

Let's be honest. You could throw a stone in any direction from anywhere in the greater Lansing area and hit at least one yoga studio. In an area that is so heavily saturated with teachers and studios, it's extremely important to weigh the qualifications and experience of the teacher and studio you choose.

Alchemy Studio is my investment in YOU. I've poured my heart and soul into creating an environment that fosters community and encourages individuality. My E-RYT 500 designation tells you I've not only received advanced level training and certification, but that I've completed at least 2,000 teaching hours beyond just certification. I regularly teach group classes, and I work individually with both students and fellow yoga teachers.

In addition to private sessions and a full class schedule, I offer continuing education workshops and RYT yoga teacher training for BOTH basic and advanced teacher certification throughout each year.

I hope you'll consider me a wise investment in your own learning process, and I look foward to working with you!

The students! They're the foundation and heartbeat of the studio, and their passion and dedication is the fuel that drives my continuing dedication to do my own hard work while being of service to others.

My husband was taking yoga classes at a local studio and purchased a new student package of classes for me. I was hooked, and I signed up for the training program almost immediately. I've been teaching ever since! I left my full time job to assist the teaching program where I received my certification, and I eventually opened my own studio in 2014.

2009: RYT200 Basic Yoga Certification

2010: RYT500 Advanced Yoga Certification

2014: E-RYT500 Advanced Designation

2018: YACEP Continuing Education Provider Designation

I typically invite students to book a private session with me before attending classes at the studio so I can get to know them and their individual needs. This is especially true for beginning students that may be a bit nervous about how and where to start. The teacher/student individual relationship is built entirely on mutual trust and respect, and this first session begins to build that foundation.

In that initial session, we discuss what attracts them to yoga, what they might know or want to know about the practice, and what they're hoping to learn. We discuss the various class structures and what to expect during class. We establish a baseline of knowledge, learn a few postures, and start the process of individual practice and growth.

For the student who is not interested in attending classes, and would prefer to do individual work with me, this initial session is a way for the student to get to know me. It's also a way for me to assess needs, desires, and direction for future work.

I work with all levels of students and clients - all shapes and sizes, all backgrounds, and all interest levels and abilities. Teaching yoga is entirely about the individual student, and each time I take on a new client the approach is different. It's a tailored experience around what that student wants to learn - what will challenge, what will inspire, and what will satisfy their desire to learn. This  individualized approach means teaching is an endlessly fascinating and challenging environment. Each student is different, so each experience is unique!

Have an open mind! Yoga is not about physical postures. It's not acrobatics. Many beginning students believe they need to be flexible to practice. As an ultra distance runner and athlete myself, I can attest to the fact that yoga does NOT require flexibility! :)

In fact, yoga includes physical postures as 'optional'. Yoga as a whole practice is about how we can quiet the mind, settle our personal environment, raise our own level of personal awareness, and bring that sense of calm abiding into our everyday lives. If that sounds reasonable, take a class! Jump into this yoga-thing and see what it can offer you.

Intermediate to advance students who have, until now, focused mainly on posture (asana) may know there's something more to the practice but not know where to start the deeper learning. For these students, my advice is to find a teacher that knows the WHOLE practice of yoga. These teachers can take a student well beyond just the posture aspect and help introduce the history, lineage, and practice of the greater philosophy.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Can you approach yoga with an open mind, no matter what you may already know or have experienced?

Can you be honest with yourself, and with your teacher?

Are you willing to be challenged, both physically and mentally?

Can you honor not only your limitations, but your potential as well?
