About Talya
I discovered yoga on a wildlands study trip to Alaska when I was 21. Our entire curriculum was centered around "a sense of place" and yoga was introduced to us as part of this theme.
As someone who's survived a good deal of trauma, yoga was absolutely transformational for my body, mind, and spirit - giving me a foundation of "home" within myself, something I'd never experienced prior to yoga.
I was a student for 8 years before I even considered teaching yoga. My yoga career was inspired by reading the book, "Do What You Love and The Money Will Follow." I knew I loved yoga, so I followed my heart and immediately knew I'd finally entered into the career path for me.
My first yoga series was called "medicinal yoga" and that's still my approach to this day. Just as food is medicine, yoga is medicine.
I've been a certified yoga teacher since 2001. I initially set out to become a yoga therapist and was certified through the Integrative Yoga Therapy Institute. But through my years of personal practice in the Iyengar tradition (as well as Ashtanga, Pilates, Prajna Yoga, and meditation), I found that Iyengar-inspired yoga and alignment-detailed yoga (with an emphasis on therapeutic movement) is my specialty.
In 2012, I started studying seriously under Tias Little (and his wife Surya - the founders of Prajna Yoga) and am now a 500-hour certified teacher through their phenomenal school -- on my way to being a 1000-hour teacher soon!
