About Matt
I am an experienced law lecturer and international lawyer with more than 20 years of professional experience.
Unlike many tutors, I have substantial experience teaching and assessing law students at UK universities, so I can help not only with understanding the law but also with what university markers are looking for.
I previously taught law at universities including Sheffield Hallam University and the University of Law, where I worked with undergraduate and postgraduate students across a range of law subjects. My teaching has included Contract Law, English Legal System, Administrative Law and Human Rights, Business Law and Practice, Public International Law and Human Rights, as well as dissertation supervision.
Alongside teaching, I have worked extensively in international human rights law, including with international organisations, governments and the International Criminal Court in The Hague. This combination of academic and professional experience allows me to help students understand both the legal principles they are studying and how legal analysis works in practice.
I aim to create a supportive, professional learning environment in which students can ask questions freely, build confidence and develop the skills needed to perform independently in essays, problem questions, exams and dissertations.

My lessons are designed to help students understand the law and perform better in assessments. We can work on difficult legal concepts, problem questions, essay structure, exam technique, case analysis and revision strategy, depending on your goals.
A typical lesson lasts 60 minutes and may involve explaining difficult concepts, working through problem questions or essay plans, reviewing case law, or discussing how to improve legal analysis and written structure. For dissertation students, I can also support research design, chapter planning, argument development and legal writing.
I have extensive experience teaching law at UK universities, including undergraduate and postgraduate students, and have taught subjects including Contract Law, Criminal Law, English Legal System, Administrative Law and Human Rights, Business Law and Practice, Public International Law, and International Human Rights. I have also supervised law dissertations and clinical legal work.
My professional background as an international lawyer also allows me to bring practical examples into teaching, particularly in public law, human rights and international law.
Lessons are aimed at A-level, LLB, GDL/PGDL and postgraduate law students. I am particularly happy to work with students preparing for exams, struggling with a particular topic, seeking to improve problem-question or essay technique, or wanting structured support with a dissertation.
