About Melvin
I’m a friendly, approachable tutor who specialises in Economics at A-level. With 3 A*s at A-level, and a degree in Economics from the London School of Economics, I bring both strong subject knowledge and a genuine enthusiasm for helping pupils succeed.
I’ve supported younger students as a mentor during secondary school and sixth form, as well as helping friends’ siblings boost their grades, experiences that showed me how rewarding it is to guide others in building confidence. I've been tutoring for 4 years professionally since then and have taught over 3000 hours for A-level Economics across AQA, Edexcel and OCR exam boards

My tutoring approach is tailored to each student’s needs. For content learning, I focus on building strong conceptual understanding by explaining the mechanisms behind theories and diagrams, and using real world examples to aid explanations of concepts, and highlighting what is most important for revision along the way. I also guide students on how to structure revision materials, plan revision effectively, and learn real world applications for their exams.
For exam technique, I begin with guided, detailed question plans to develop the thought processes and strategies needed for top band answers, before moving towards independent planning and writing. I then provide real-time feedback on exam responses until students are confident producing high-mark answers consistently, while building a strong bank of essay plans and main points/evaluations across topics for revision.

Melvin’s always been the person people go to when they don’t get something. He’s patient, clear, and doesn’t mind going over things until it clicks. He’s done a lot of informal tutoring with friends and classmates, and with his academic background on top of that, I think he’d be a really solid tutor.
