About Abi
I am an experienced tutor covering Art and Fashion. This includes, but is not limited to: portfolio guidance, pattern cutting (with a deeper knowledge of tailoring and knit/jersey specifically), machine knitting guidance for dubied and domestic machines, applications to internships and to undergraduate courses, and applying to UAL and specifically CSM BA fashion courses. Throughout my time at CSM, I have made countless portfolios and applied to hundreds of internships, so I understand the feeling of frustration when your applications aren't successful; however, through these rejections, I learnt what a successful application looked like. By reflecting on what was truly required, I was able to land 3 incredible internship opportunities throughout my year in industry - these placements that once felt unattainable, have now transformed my practice as a creative and maker! I am keen to make access to these institutions (both specifically CSM, and the fashion and art world more broadly) transparent and possible, as they can often feel mystifying and inaccessible. By helping you to decode opportunities, and assess how to make your work fit the brief!

I hold a first-class degree from Central Saint Martins (UAL) in Fashion Design with Knitwear. I am an experienced tutor covering Art and Fashion. This includes, but is not limited to: portfolio guidance, pattern cutting (with a deeper knowledge of tailoring and knit/jersey specifically), machine knitting guidance for dubied and domestic machines, applications to internships and to undergraduate courses, and applying to UAL and specifically CSM BA fashion courses. Prior to my undergraduate degree, my foundation and A Level Art portfolio also gained acceptances from a number of incredible, highly ranked art schools and universities - including Newcastle, Leeds, Chelsea School of Art, and Manchester School of Art, and the Central Saint Martins foundation course. Over the course of my degree, I also gained experience in printmaking and etching at the Royal Drawing School. I also was awarded a Diploma in Professional Studies, following a year working in industries related to my degree. During this time, I interned at a number of incredible fashion houses, and as an art fabricator for a textile artist. These experiences have all developed my understanding of what makes a successful application - whether that be applying to a foundation course, undergraduate degree or internship/placements. I am highly skilled in InDesign, and specifically the art of translating a sketchbook into a tangible, coherent portfolio, without compromising on your visual identity. Throughout my course, I took a detailed interest in pattern cutting, learning all that I could from the incredible pattern cutting tutors Central Saint Martins has to offer. I am keen to share my knowledge and experience learning from them, and helping you learn to turn your designs into real garments.
