• When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

  My interest in marketing began when I was in high school. I read an article on how marketers designed the layout in retail stores to ensure customers visited most of the store. I found the understanding of consumer psychology fascinating and I decided to study marketing, work in marketing for some of the most well-known brands, and more recently work teaching and researching marketing for over the last 9 years.

• Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

  My focus of expertise is marketing, but I have experience in wider business and management as a field. I have also expertise doing research in the marketing and technology, and due to my role in Higher Education I have supervised hundreds of students through their undergraduate and postgraduate research projects.

• Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

  My market research teacher taught me how understanding market data can inform marketers in making better decisions. Their work leading a market research agency really brought to life the concepts being taught. I try to replicate that with my own teaching - connecting theory to practice.

• What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

  I think to be a good tutor it is important to recognise the strengths and areas of improvement of each tutee, and to adapt to the tutee's strength to make sure their likelihood to succeed increase.

• Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

  I think marketing sometimes get a bad reputation, trying to manipulate customers or just sell more products. The reality is that marketing and an understanding of consumers can have very positive outcomes not only for businesses but also for consumers/users of products and services.

• What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

  Particularly around marketing and technology, the level of advancements we are seeing make is it sometimes challenging to stay on top of the latest trends. However, this also poses opportunities particularly around identifying research gaps and potential contributions to impact.

• Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

  I find very rewarding to facilitate students reaching their true potential. It is also very rewarding to see how their career progresses over time, and to know that my contribution, albeit modest, was part of their growth.

• What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P) ?

  I research and teach for impact, and I bring a lot of the knowledge and skills I have gathered over the years to the sessions with my tutees
