About Miles

For students developing an interest in life sciences, my accumulated knowledge and advice could be of value. My degree has given me a broad understanding of biochemistry and molecular biology and I am now working in the lab to combat antibiotic resistance. I am offering tutoring, guidance and insight for those at an earlier stage. I also have experience in providing mock interviews for Oxbridge applicants and admissions advice for UK schools.

About the lesson

Mentoring, Guidance and Advice:

Hindsight is a powerful thing. Just being further down the road allows me to give valuable insight on how to improve rapidly and develop the skills necessary for higher study. This session can include anything from simple study methods, to more specific advice regarding university applications (including personal statements). The discussion is tailored to what you want to know so that you get the maximum out of the time.

Academic Tuition:

I can provide in-depth teaching for many areas within my expertise. If there are specific topics you would like higher-level tuition in then please email so that we can discuss what I can do for you. These sessions typically involve setting reading (eg. a scientific paper or article) so that we can discuss the concepts in detail and address questions. The aim is to encourage thinking beyond the scope of the school curriculum. You are expected to struggle and perfection is unattainable, but I found that this kind of thinking blows the ceiling off your appreciation for the complexity of life!

Oxbridge Mock Interview:

This provides a structured interview in the style of Oxford University admission interviews. I can provide mock interviews in biochemistry, biomedical science or medicine. Note that for medicine, the interview only tests aptitude for the molecular and cellular aspects of the degree as I am not qualified to discuss physiology or ethics! The interview will last approximately 30-35 minutes, before extensive feedback and suggestions for improvement.

Perfect! Miles is an excellent tutor!

Miles provided me with two practice interviews in preparation for my upcoming interviews at the Univerity of Oxford. His first-hand experience in the Oxford interviewing process as a current student allowed me to get a feel for the layout of Oxford interviews. Particiulary, he encouraged me to speak my mind at all times which enabled me to practise communicating my thoughts on unknown content outside of my a-level knowledge. The rehearsal of this skill meant that it expressing my ideas came extremely naturally during my real interviews, of which I felt extremely prepared for and calm throughout. Miles is very friendly and approachable and is always eager to answer any questions you may have.
