About Raya
Hi! My name is Raya, and I am a first-year student at Simon Fraser University. I am passionate about working with children and fostering their learning in a positive environment.
Over the years, I have gained experience working with children through one-on-one literacy support, assisting students with reading and comprehension skills. I have also held leadership roles in high school, such as serving as President of the Environment Club, where I guided and supported my peers. These volunteer experiences have helped me strengthen my communication, leadership, and patience.
I also have learning disabilities, including ADHD and processing disorders, which have given me a deeper understanding of the challenges some students face when learning. Because of this, I am highly adaptable, committed, and patient.

My goal as a tutor is to build my students' confidence in learning and to create a supportive environment. I believe that every student learns differently. I strive to understand each student's unique learning style and tailor my approach to help them achieve academic success. For example, if a student is a visual learner, we can use diagrams, drawings, or other visual materials to enhance their comprehension of the topic at hand.
My lessons are designed for elementary and middle school students, up to Grade 8, who follow the British Columbia English curriculum. I focus on developing reading, writing, and comprehension skills for your child.
A typical lesson plan varies depending on each student's needs. However, we would usually begin with a short warm-up activity, such as reading a passage together or reviewing previously learned material. We then focus on the main lesson, which may include working on reading comprehension or writing summaries step by step. I also incorporate breaks when needed and try to include games to keep my students engaged. At the end of the session, we review what we have learned to reinforce the student's understanding and build their confidence.
