About Jared
I’m a former Special Education and English/Language Arts teacher with over 15 years of instructional, lesson planning, and curriculum design/modification/accommodation experience. In addition, I have spent the last several years as a private tutor. I have worked with students from grades 5-12, as well as with college and graduate school students and adult learners. Subjects that I have tutored include reading and writing at any level, math up through and including geometry, middle and high school science and social studies/history, and beginner to intermediate Spanish. I also have a significant amount of virtual tutoring experience, both during and before the pandemic, and am very skilled at and comfortable with working in an online environment.

As a lifelong educator, I enjoy helping learners of all levels make progress toward their individual goals. During tutoring lessons, I rely on my extensive classroom teaching experience to determine a client's level of proficiency at a particular skill. I can then offer individually tailored support, guiding my clients when tasks are new or challenging and gradually releasing control as they progress to the point of independence.
I am also a firm believer in whole child education and know that the relationship between a teacher/tutor and a student is the most critical factor to the student's success. I make it a point to learn about and show genuine interest in my clients' extracurricular activities and passions. For this reason, many of my clients remain with me for multiple school years. When I moved from California to Connecticut a couple years ago, several clients continued to meet with me virtually for some time. Currently, I am in the middle of my third year working with a client and have enjoyed seeing her grow from a timid, anxious 7th grader who doubted her abilities to a mature 9th grader who exhibits greater independence and self-confidence.
