About Dave
I am a software engineer and founder. I build AI systems for a living, and I teach because the people I work with kept asking me to explain how, not just do it for them.
My background is engineering. Over fifteen years building software, most of it as a technical lead and architect, designing systems that had to stay up, stay correct and keep working as teams and traffic grew. For the last few years my focus has been entirely on AI: autonomous agents, orchestration, retrieval, and the operating models that let a team work with these tools consistently instead of everyone improvising in their own chat window.
Today I run my own company. I build and operate AI products that are live in production with real users, and I work directly with client teams to help them adopt AI in their daily engineering work. That matters for teaching, because everything I explain is something I have shipped, watched fail at an inconvenient hour, and fixed. I am not passing on a course I once took. I am passing on what actually held up.
I take teaching seriously and I prepare for it. Before we start I ask what you are trying to build and where you are stuck, so the first session is already useful. I keep notes between sessions, I give you honest feedback rather than encouragement you have not earned, and if I think a goal is unrealistic in the time you have, I will say so and propose a route that is not. If something is outside my competence, I will tell you that too.
What students tend to value most is that I explain the reasoning, not just the steps. Tools and frameworks in this field change every few months. The judgment behind a design decision does not, and that is what I want you to walk away with.

My approach
I do not teach AI as theory. Every session is hands-on, in your editor, on your codebase or on a real project we build together. You leave each lesson with something that runs.
The method is simple: you drive, I sit next to you. I explain the decision before we make it, you implement it, then we break it on purpose and fix it. That last part is where the learning actually sticks. I care far more about you understanding why a system is shaped a certain way than about you memorising a framework's API, because the frameworks change every three months and the reasoning does not.
What I teach
• AI agents and autonomous systems: tool use, MCP, orchestration, memory and retrieval, evaluation, and the guardrails that stop an agent doing something expensive at 3am
• AI-assisted development: how to actually work with coding agents daily instead of pasting snippets into a chat window
• Workflows and process design: turning messy human work into steps a machine can run and a team can trust
• Software architecture and systems design: services, data models, queues, multi tenancy, scaling, and the trade offs behind each
• Backend engineering and infrastructure: Python, APIs, databases, containers, CI/CD, deployment
Format and length
Standard lesson is 60 minutes. I recommend 90 minutes for architecture and systems design work, because an hour is not enough to review a real system and still leave with decisions made. Sessions run online with screen sharing, one to one or with a small team. I usually suggest a weekly rhythm with a small piece of work between sessions, since progress comes from what you build between lessons, not during them.
For teams I also run intensive formats: a half day or full day workshop on one topic, then follow up sessions while people apply it to their own work.
My experience
I am a founder and engineer, not a career trainer. I run an AI consultancy and I build and operate my own AI products in production, so everything I teach is something I use daily and have had break on me in real conditions. Over fifteen years building software, most of it as an architect and technical lead, and the last years focused entirely on agents, autonomous systems and how teams work alongside them. I have trained engineering teams inside client companies to adopt AI in their day to day work, which is a different skill from writing the code yourself.
Who this is for
• Developers and engineers who want to build real AI agents, not demos
• Senior engineers and tech leads moving into architecture and systems design
• Founders and technical people who want to run their business on AI instead of just subscribing to it
• Teams adopting AI who need a shared way of working rather than everyone improvising
Beginners are welcome if you can already write code in some language. If you have never programmed, we start with fundamentals first and I will tell you honestly how long that takes. Adults and university level. I teach in English and Spanish.
What I expect from you
Come with a real problem. Your project, your bug, your architecture, your team's process. Vague curiosity is a slow way to learn. A specific goal makes the first session useful immediately.
