About Laura
While studying French and Russian at Nottingham University I had the opportunity to teach English in both Martinique and Russia to both children and adults - from conversation classes over tea and biscuits with university students, to helping French children with to pass their Baccalaureate exams.
After a year teaching literacy in Africa I went on to work with International Students for a year at Nottingham University, where I assisted students with proof-reading of academic essays and presentations.
I then studied for my TEFL Certification, and used this to obtain a position in a language school in Russia, where I worked on intensive English Summer camps for children and teenagers.
Since then I have not formally taught English, but in my travels I have enjoyed helping support international friends in their quest in improve their language or to help them to pass the language exams required for their visas.

Although English is my native language, I have studied French and Russian to University level, so I know and understand the struggles of getting to grips with a new language, as well as having plenty of techniques and advice up my sleeve for effective language learning. The most important thing for me is that my students feel comfortable making mistakes. If you can't make a mistake you can't take a risk and you can't learn! So having a go, even if you get it wrong, is very much encouraged.
I love to talk, and also to listen to other people's stories, and I think the best way to improve one's English is to practise, practise, practise so I put a strong emphasis on conversation on a variety of topics, while always trying to back up what's being practice and learn with some written work.
