About Samuel

I have studied Geography at 11, progressing with it at both 16 and 18 when I chose the subject to be one of my A Levels and my degree at the University of Hertfordshire.

Since being at university, I have explored key aspects of Geography and understood the relevancy of key concepts to the geographical field. Through the knowledge of in class learning, I have then been able to apply this externally to study visits that the University has organised, to places such as Switzerland, the Lake District and Hertford etc.

Along with this, I was one of the Year 1 Geography Student Representatives for my course, which enabled me to contribute to the layout of the degree for the first year, ensuring that it was more accessible to students.

Outside of university, I have been part of an Eco-Committee at my former sixth form. Because of my wider understanding of politics and the climate crisis, I was able to blend these in our meetings, which led to me talking about the necessary political actions and potential repercussions that could ensnare us a society in an interview with BBC Radio Kent.

I was also a member of WWF UK’s Sustainable Future Careers Youth Advisory Group. This allowed me to advise the WWF on courses and modules for young people to ensure that they were relevant and engaging to young people to establish a relationship between young people and geography. I was offered further opportunities as well, including visiting the WWF HQ in Woking, meeting high officials, and attending an Eat4Change Youth Summit in Finland, with high academics that encouraged environmental change in their countries.

It is because of these opportunities that I have partaken in that have enabled me to have a firm understanding of key geographical concepts and applying them to the wider world.

About the lesson

As a second-year geography student at the University of Hertfordshire, you will have the chance to explore both human and physical geography.

From learning GCSE and A Level Geography content, looking at units such as Changing Places, Coastal Environments and Global Governance. You will have the chance to customise your learning experience in both human and physical geography.

Receiving secondary and sixth form level education, you will also be offered university content, giving you insight into what studying human and physical geography is like at an undergraduate level.

With a hybrid of online and in person learning, you can tailor these lessons to how you want to learn. If you wish to do it for one hour or more once a week, or a month, it is completely up to you. This is your learning and I want you to get the best out of it.
