About Valerie
My main passion is to help people to succeed in life.
I combine my business experience with an enjoyment of teaching to become a Business English and IELTS Instructor.
I realised there were people from around the world who would love the chance to learn English to optimise their career opportunities. If you're one of them, I'm here to help.
I've held key management positions in the areas of healthcare (Vancouver Coastal Health, Canada), publishing (Harpercollins, UK) and manufacturing (Intralock Tools Ltd, Canada), so I'm familiar with a wide range of business processes and industries and can equip you with the vocabulary used in a wide range of business settings.
I speak French and a little Cantonese and hope that increases your comfort level in making that first step.

English is fast becoming the global business language and IELTS is needed to immigrate to, and work or study in, North America and the CANZUK countries (Canada, Australia, New Zealand & UK). What most people forget is that business and IELTS English is very different to commonly spoken English - the standards for use in all four language areas of speaking, writing, reading and listening are much higher.
In business, there are conventions for writing reports and CVs (AKA résumés). There are also power words and vocabulary specific to the industry you want to work in.
As for IELTS, the exam is a test in itself. Under time pressure, candidates must grasp audio and passage contents extremely quickly. As well, speech and written content needs to be composed according to specific formats. The good news is that I can equip you with strategies to help you navigate through the exam much more easily.
I'll be using actual IELTS questions and authentic business materials to ensure that the content is relevant to your needs.
