About Alice
I have a degree in Geography and International Development from the University of East Anglia, with a 2:1. Prior to that, I achieved 3 A-Level's graded A*-B, and 10 GCSE's all graded A-B, during my time at Oakham School.
I began teaching in my second year at university, where I was a member and then President of Stop the Traffik - a charity focused on raising awareness of Human Trafficking. During my time, we visited schools to give lessons and lectures about this issue, often as part of wider PSHE classes. At this point I discovered I really enjoyed teaching and sharing my knowledge.
Following this, I have spent a total of 6 months teaching English on a voluntary basis at a charity school in Cambodia, during two different visits to the country. I taught students of varying ages and abilities, the oldest being 21 and taking their yearly final exams at school, and the youngest aged 7 with very limited English. As class sizes varied considerably, I have experienced teaching both larger groups and regular 1:1 sessions with my older students, and am very comfortable in both positions.
During my time teaching in Cambodia, I was delighted to hear that my older students had all passed their English exams at their school!
I am looking to start out on my tutoring journey in a more professional capacity than I have previously experienced, in addition to my day job. My current role has me working in the Learning and Development field within big businesses, so aligns very well with my interest in tutoring and will run in parallel.
Outside of work, I am very into keeping fit - with Ice Skating being a recent hobby that has also widened my social circle. I also spend a lot of time with my dog, who at 1 year old enjoys a lot of attention, and he will regularly join me when I go running! I am always looking to increase my knowledge, and am currently learning Italian on Duolingo (albeit very slowly!), and can regularly be found with my nose in a book.
