Brooks is a respected tutor in our community. He is highly recommended for his commitment and the quality of his lessons. An excellent choice to progress with confidence.
About Brooks
I have been teaching, recording and performing acoustic guitar for 30-plus years. My musical experiences have covered a lot of ground over those years and include folk, country, blues, singer-songwriter, instrumental and jazz. Although I am primarily a self-taught guitarist, I have also participated in jazz workshops at the University of Massachusetts and Berklee School of Music. I've been teaching from the very beginning of my career. Lots of one-to-one lessons but also group day- weekend- and week-long workshops. I see learning the guitar (or any musical instrument, in fact) as a fabulous lifelong pursuit. No matter where we are on the journey, we are always learners - this includes me! - and can improve our technique, knowledge and fluidity on the fretboard.

I teach each student individually and try to create lessons that are fun and stress-free, while also focusing on the areas the student hopes to see improvement. We identify a few key techniques that might help the student progress in the ways they would like, and then I teach those techniques through the music and songs associated with the genre the student is interested in learning.
We can look at 'singing' songs as well as instrumentals. Support materials include lyric-chord sheets, TAB (when appropriate), and chord diagrams. Along the way, we will try and look at ways to not only 'back-up' the songs or tunes, but also at ways we might arrange them.
My focus is acoustic blues and Americana, and techniques include fingerpicking, flat picking, strumming with a plectrum, open-tunings and slide guitar. My lessons are ideally suited for the player who knows the first-position chords and can play songs in a very basic way, but is eager to learn more interesting arrangements, including chords and riffs that move up and down the neck.

I have been lucky to have been to several lessons with Brooks over the last five years or so and he has been hugely influential in helping me find my way back to my acoustic guitar after a long gap. I have found him to be a warm, friendly, encouraging teacher and I always come away feeling I have improved as a player and motivated to improve further.
I joined a Brooks tutorial group at Marlborough College Summer School many years ago when I knew only a handful of chords. Brooks was a superb tutor and many of the group like me have returned to his master classes year after year. I think the secret is he is the complete package: singer, guitarist, song-writer, performer, entertainer.
I met Brooks many years ago when I attended one of his guitar courses at the Marlborough Summer School. As a teacher he has a unique way of making his lessons interesting and fun - always being patient and encouraging to his students, whatever standard they may or not be. I count myself so fortunate to have had many lessons from this very inspirational teacher and would highly recommend him .
I have attended several workshops with Brooks, starting with beginners and graduating through intermediate. He is an inspirational musician and teacher...endlessly patient and supportive. He is funny with a fund of anecdotes and stories about the songs we have been learning. Top man!
Brooks is amongst the very best of contemporary musicians. Amongst the world’s best. I’ve attended several of his UK workshops and one-to-one
lessons over the last four years. And I will keep coming back. His guitar, voice, songwriting and arrangement skill set would be the envy of most modern musicians. Then there is his teaching. Clear, patient and focussed on your level of playing. Whatever level you’re at Brooks will bring you forward, build your confidence and keep you motivated. This has been my experience with his approach to teaching and learning. Highly recommended. And of course he’s just the nicest of fellows to meet!
I have known Brooks for a number of years, approximately ten.
I would consider Brooks to be more of a friend than "just a tutor".
He is excellent at getting things across in a subtle manner, "just what is needed when you cannot find That Missing Cord"
I would highly recommend Brooks as very competent and easy going tutor.
John WainApart form being one of the foremost singer/songwriters working in the UK, Brooks has to be one of the best guitar teachers around. He's one of those rare tutors who understands the problems that student will have and can find great workarounds for those who's fingers just won't go in the right places. At his courses the emphasis is on making music and playing songs - and giving people confidence that they can do it! I'd recommend anyone to go along to his live teaching courses and have a blast - but for those who can't manage to do that, his online stuff is a must. Check out his YouTube channel to see just how good he is: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCTBF7FXRfGr0Q4DLh--7fXA
Brooke’s is a fabulous musician. A Special musician ! in as much as he has the skills to both perform at a very high level … and to teach and pass on his immense knowledge to students at most levels!
A patient teacher who has the skills to engage with his students and help them move forward with their guitar journey !
Highly recommended !! BJA BondBrooks is a brilliant teacher full of enthusiasm and makes one feel confident to have a go no matter what your standard may be. I have had many sessions with him and still find it inspiring .
I met Brooks at a Winter Song Workshop here in New York. I attended the Roots of Blues class with Brooks ,and became an instant fan of the the Blues. Brooks class was so much fun ! He takes the time to go through the course material easily.
Also I have studied with Brooks online as well as many guitar workshops in the USA. Brooks teaches so well and always makes learning easy and understandable. He has helped me tremendously to learn songs, chords, 12 bar blues as well as song writing techniques.
I highly recommend Brooks Williams as a teacher for guitar, song writing, cultivating and expanding your knowledge, developing your skills around all things music, guitar, riffs, shuffles , song writing and so much more!
To sum it up Brooks is the best guitar teacher I ever had! —Donna GI started taking mandolin lessons with Brooks last year. Since the guitar was my first instrument, I was looking for a teacher that could bring that guitar experience to someone who is learning the mandolin. It was a perfect match. Brooks is thorough and encouraging. He helped me build a repertoire of great songs, explore different genres, and develop mandolin basic fundamentals by learning these songs. After several months of online lessons, I played my mandolin at a public event, and it was very rewarding.
