About Lisa
Kia ora! I am a Master's student who loves teaching and giving confidence to students, especially in something as important as writing skills. I have noticed during my uni-course tutoring work that people often struggle communicating effectively, even if they understand the course content - this can be so frustrating for students, and knocks their confidence in their own ability. I also value accessibility, and I recognize how daunting it can feel to participate in group sessions or seek help from people significantly older than you. It is because of this that I have decided to provide private tutoring in writing skills. As a non-native English speaker, I understand what it's like to struggle with your writing, and equally know the rewarding feeling of improving and seeing your grades match the effort you've put in. Your writing can get better, and sooner than later the new skills become muscle memory and it's not as difficult anymore. I'm an experienced tutor who has taught a broad range of subjects to diverse people for over four years. I teach NCEA, IB and University students, including adults.
I am happy to provide one off or regular sessions, feedback on specific assignments or help with specific writing work. My lesson lengths and techniques change with the individual that I am helping. I can provide both structured and unstructured lessons, provide resources, give verbal and written feedback, provide lesson recaps at the end for you to refer back to, or a mixture of everything (and more!). Lesson lengths are typically between 30 minutes and 2 hours, I am happy to go over 2 hours if needed.
