About Papp
Over 30-plus years I have played in jazz, soul, funk, rock, pop, and reggae bands and have developed a thorough understanding of all these styles. I teach at various private and independent schools in Melbourne and am now opening my home studio. I have always enjoyed teaching and passing on my knowledge to enthusiastic students willing to practice and learn new and enjoyable music that they can play and explore at home or play with other like-minded musicians. If you want to have fun and learn an instrument then give it a go!

Hello to all the lucky people about to meet Chris! We've known each other for over a quarter of a century, involved in countless music projects together as well as having the privilege of playing in bands together. Chris is not just a close friend but an amazing teacher, educator, and role model to all who know him, have worked with him, and learned from him. He is one of the most dedicated, diligent musicians I have ever met in my forty-plus years of musical career. We first met when Chris was finishing his Jazz Improvisation studies at Australia's most elite music school, VCA (Victorian College of the Arts), where he studied improvisation. Over the years to today, I've had the pleasure of closely following his journey of becoming one of Australia's strong pillars and ambassadors of Australian Jazz music. I would not hesitate to recommend Chris to anyone who is serious about learning the saxophone, as he is a master of all facets of the art: music theory, sight-reading, high-end playing, performing, as well as songwriting, arranging multi-instrumental performance pieces, and conducting ensembles. His ready sense of humor, impeccable presentation, and well-developed methodology to teach, as well as having the ability to evaluate where you are at in your musical development to help you build a tailor-made personal approach to learn to play and understand your chosen instrument, the saxophone. You follow his instructions, and you'll be on your way to being a great saxophonist. I’m a double bass player, and God knows I’ll forever be thankful to Chris for his friendship and never-ending musical and life inspiration.
I've been learning saxophone with Chris for the last three years and have learnt so much. He's a really good teacher, easy to learn from, and always makes lessons enjoyable. I'd definitely recommend Chris to anyone looking to learn the saxophone.
I’ve known Chris Pappas as both a musician and teacher, and one of the things that stands out most is how naturally he builds confidence in his students. Chris is patient, encouraging and knows how to bring out the best in people, no matter what level they’re at.
With years of experience performing and teaching across a wide range of musical styles, Chris has worked with one-on-one students, bands and ensembles. He’s also an accomplished recording artist who’s released his own CDs and performed with well-known Australian musicians, so his students benefit from a wealth of real-world experience.
If you’re looking for a knowledgeable, down-to-earth saxophone teacher who genuinely enjoys helping people learn and grow, I’d highly recommend Chris Pappas. As the former head of music at Kingswood College, I can highly recommend Papp as an excellent woodwind teacher. He is dedicated and always encourages students to do their very best. Papp has taught all woodwind instruments but specializes in saxophone and can take a student to the highest AMEB level. He is a former VCA student and can teach both classical and contemporary saxophone, and when he was under my employ, his students ranged from junior school grade 4 to secondary year 12.
