About Nicole
I am a graduate of Indiana State University, where I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary and Special Education, supplemented with minors in Reading and English as a New Language. I have since gone on to earn a Master's in Social Work from Indiana University School of Social Work. My role as a School Social Worker involves guiding students in decision making, including decisions about how they will conduct themselves at school. I help kids develop plans for organization, motivation, and other ways to be successful at school. While I am qualified to teach content area material, I also have expertise in advising students on how and why it is important to succeed in school.

I am a patient teacher who believes in positive reinforcement. I can teach early literacy to elementary school students. I will also work with older students through middle school who need assistance with proofreading papers, editing for substance and creativity on writing assignments, and comprehension of short stories, essays, and novels. I have worked with English learners before and have helped students to reach grade level comprehension of the English Language. A typical lesson with a younger student would last about 30 minutes, and contain some game-based learning, combined with assessing for mastery. I would work with older students (5-8th grades) for up to an hour, depending on attention span and subject material. I enjoy meeting and building a rapport with students. I am eager to meet your student.
