About Dean

My name is Dean Wilson, and I've always felt understanding math is the closest thing to understanding the source code of the universe we live in. I started in college by studying astrophysics then eventually shifted my focus to applied and pure math. From the small stuff like arithmetic all the way to vector calculus and differential equations - it is our tool we have developed as humans trying to understand how all this stuff works. While I understand many different types of people struggle in many different types of ways when studying math, I have yet to be convinced that people are incapable of overcoming that and understanding it at a deeper level than they ever thought they would.

About the lesson

I like to break down scary looking problems into smaller, fundamental ideas. We usually start a session by discussing what we will work on that day, and then by using a scaffold method we will methodically make a simple problem more and more complex, showing how every new complexity is just a smaller problem to solve. I have tutored students young enough to be elementary schoolers to those old enough to be grandparents, from the East Coast to the West Coast, from public school to private institutions. At the end of the day, I know everyone is capable of not only performing math but understanding it as well.
