About Garrett
I grew up with a love for the visual and performing arts. My parents were both teachers and inspired me to become one as well. I feel the most joy when seeing my students succeed. I graduated with my bachelors in art education from Kutztown University and obtained a masters in education from Wilkes University. I love learning and sharing that love is very important to me.
I believe that each of us hold the power to be a creative (wether thats in visual arts, music, performing, etc.), and can create wonderful work if guided to the right resources. I ask my students to be open about new experiences and educate them on how to manifest their desired talents.

I have extensive knowledge in the creative process when it comes to the art making process. I have taught AP level courses as well as an array of various studio courses (painting, drawing, and ceramics) at the high school level. I am the musical director in my school and have put on 6 successful productions, and work with students to enhance their performing and dancing skills.
I take on the approach of understanding the whole child, what their interests and abilities are and how we can utilize their individual interests and emotions to enhance their artwork or portray a character during a monologue. I taylor each of my lessons to serve as an outlet to help students process their lives in a way that is authentic to them.
The thing that sets me a part from other tutors is my ability to connect with students. Approaching all aspects of the creative process with the up most respect for the learner. My ability to have students make connections to their inner most thoughts and experiences, is what sets my students apart from others.
A typical lesson plan begins with an engaging and creative warm up activity (for either a high school visual arts class or drama class) which gives the student a view into the process. I will use a demonstrative approach to show the student one way they can tackle the assignment. We discuss how we can use the processes and techniques learned in the demonstration to best suite what they will create. Students will begin working on their assignment (art or theatre) and will face creative blocks, when these arise we learn about creative problem solving, letting the student be made aware of the various ways someone can approach a task. I use formative assessments to get a read on how they are performing. I use visuals ( various media inspirations) as a library to ignite the students passion, so they can properly invest the time in their project. When the project, monologue, dance, or song is complete, I will assess the process using a summative assessment. We criticize the work that has been done and discuss connections we have made through out the lesson.
